Default Any trouble getting onto IBSP with buggy pass weekends?

Hi All,

I know most of you avoid IBSP on the weekends, at least during the day, but for those of you like me who can only get out on the weekends, have you had any trouble? Last weekend they let me on with the buggy pass (it was closed for parking) but a guy at Grumpy's said they were turning everyone away. Does this ever happen? I was going to bring my girlfriend's dad down on Saturday and I'd hate to get all the way down there and have to turn around...

Chris

Get there before 11:00 am and you should have no problem.

Last year I arrived when the gate was turning away people but I was let through because I had the pass. I am assuming that as long as you have the pass they let you in.

There are limits on the amount of passes that they allow in but I have never seen it enforced since they set them. Just get there early and you'll be fine. whats left another 2 weekends then labor day and then the numbers will drop off big time on the weekends because school will be back in and the honey do lists start for the hubbies.

Never got turned away with the buggy pass. I have seen them check and make sure you have fishing gear in the vehicle sometimes. The only time they will turn you away is if the maximum number of buggies (500) are already there, but I havn't seen that happen in a long time.

Thanks everyone. That eases my mind a bit. It's true that in two weeks it will be a different story, but it would be pretty embarrassing to get turned away at the gates with the girlfriends dad.

Thanks again
Chris

Back in 2005 I saw them turning buggies away on a Saturday morning. Every once in a while they do enforce this so do not just go by what people say, get there early they have been tuff on people this year and if its going to be a busy weekend they might just do it you never know. The pass does not guarantee anything.

Hi Ragman
I just called the gate house, No they have not turned any one with a pass down in 15 years, they said there is no way they can keep count on the 500 buggies entering the beach, buggies come in and leave all day long, they don't see it happening at all in the future, unless there is a lot of beach erosion where the parking on the beach is limited .
By getting there early just gaurantees a spot.
Good Luck fishing this weekend, lots of small snappers in the wash, fluke fishing has picked on on the beach using a live snapper.
Lots of small bluefish were caught 1-1/2 lbs Wednesday & yesterday by the pocket on small hopkins with a white bucktail.
Most of the good fluke is at low tide in front of a sand bar with a trough.

The do keep track of the number entering, hit a separate key on the cash register in the gatehouse (this is NJ, everything runs by the cash register...). During busy times, I have seen some of the Park Police officers use one of those small hand counters as the drive the beach. It's probably not the most accurate system, but the do check it sometimes.

I guess there is always a chance that a hard nose ranger wants to play Super Cop for the day and go by the rules..

Thanks again for all the input. We had no trouble today and even hooked up with a short (21") striper. All in all a great way to entertain the girlfriend's dad.

Impossible To keep track , remember in the summer they have those little houses up as well, they sit back and just flag the buggys by by.
Do they keep track of the buggies coming out ?

When I had my stuff ripped off I got to talk with alot of park officials and I did ask them this specific question.

They said that on really busy times, the state park police will ride from Gillis to the pocket and count cars on a clicker....if it is over 500 (rarely happens) they consider closing. They also take into account holiday weekends and are willing to be a bit lenient during those times.

I bet there were less than 50 buggies on the beach when I left at 9:30.

BTW there is alot going on there for august fish species-wise.
