Good to hear the temps are climbing and the bait is there. Now we just need fish big enough to eat that bait

I visited the Toms River yesterday to kill a few bloodworms and throw swimmers for a while. The wind was 15 to 25 from the SW, but I spent most of my time with it at my back and trying to avoid wind knots. I also successfully avoided bothering any fish. A few serious locals were there trying the same and meeting exactly the same level of success. I think the fish were tired from partying all night under the full moon.
The word I got from the nearby tackle shop was that the best strategy is to have dinner, a nice cup of coffee, and start fishing as the sun is going down. He said that they've been producing good numbers of stripers right through the "winter" and that the river water temps never got much lower than 40F and are now above 45.

Back bay up north is like glass and there has to be a few thousand birds just sitting on top. Wish I had a decent camera, looked very relaxing

my sense is that given the temps and the presence of bait we are not going to have a gradual start to the bite but a solid opening all at once; I got my fishery science degree from ding dong school...who remembers Miss Frances ???

Don,

Good for you!
Being as you were in the yak, I suspect that you were in the back somewhere, no?

Moco out front in Killer B country. I was on the fly with an outgoing tide. No bait observed swimming, but several bunker observed in the jaws of several large seals. Some very soft sand with some sporty conditions for fly casting. I also observed several of Bayaker's fiendish feathered friends, but they were unescorted by Princess Penelope piping plover in her white pickup G ride.......for now

I'm going to do shad in the Delaware until the end of April then shift to the beach.
