Default just moved

just moved to revere from nj and i am looking forward to getting in on some new england striper action. through the years i have become very aquainted with surf fishing in nj primarily at Island Beach State Park (for those of you who might know of it) and i am looking to get into the action up here on the mass coast. i live right on revere beach and i haven't a clue where there is good striper action. i know when the season starts in nj but what about up here? when do they start to hit the shores for feeding and where are the good spots? i've heard a lot about this plum island and from the little research i have done it seems as though north of revere there are few good places to go. any over-sand beach buggy places up here? thanks in advanced for all the help.

Welcome to Mass and the Site, Plum Island is a googan fest I would fish Revere Beach Also Deer Island has a spot to park and fish a spot called fawns bars. there are also ferrys to take you out to the Boston Harbor Islands. There is a tackle shop in Everett called Fishing Finatics talk to Pete Santini owner he should be able to help you. there is limited drive on at Parker River Wildlife Refuge. plenty of fishing on Cape Cod Both drive on and walk on.

Like Bob said there are more beaches on the Cape for driving and much more access for walk ons.
Plum Island is fantastic fishing and I don't agree about on the Googan fest.
I have met many many people there who know what they are doing.
You can drive the Refuge from September through October 31st.
Keep your eyes open for Togue, Surf Rat, Tattoobob and others who are far from googans. They are almost always there as am I.
Give a shout when the time gets close.
Myself or someone will surely help you get you the info you need.
Lots of people fish the river up there and that IS a mess.
Just way too many people that don't know what they are doing.
BUT LOTS of fish.
During the Fall the Refuge is a very nice long quiet stretch of beach, with many nice deep striper holes.
I can't help with the general area around Revere because I am either on The Cape or at PI. I really enjoy fishing outside the city.
Don't be discouraged, we have the longest and best striper fishing up here.
Welcome to Massachusetts

thanks for all the info and help so far. i will be sure to seek out some more info as the time gets closer. speaking of time, when does the late winter/spring "run" begin up here? i took a drive today up to Plum Island, actually i got lost and wound up on Rt. 1 and saw a sign for it so I figured I would check it out, place was mobbed with people probably because of the great weather we had today. there was a bait/tackle shop on the right after you passed the gulf station, looked half way decent but it was closed. what is the bait of choice up here, down in NJ bunker/clams were the choice on a hi/lo setup same up here?

Oh yes, Surfland B&T is closed for January. It will open up soon.

The best place you ever want to go.
Fantastic people
Worms are the bait of choice. You can't lose. Though if you want big fish and only big fish it's eels.
Sounds like you went past the road to the Refuge.
When you get to that Gulf you should take a right.
That road will bring you straight into the Refuge.
7 Miles of QUIET pristine beach and wetlands, loaded with scenery and wildlife.
I go there many times in the winter to just enjoy.
When the beach is open (not closed for Plovers) it closes very early in the AM.
Only so many vehicles are allowed in. So it is not ever crowded.
I can park my truck for the weekend and not even see anyone for a mile.
I absolutely love that beach.
Keep in touch

Ooops about the high -low rig, yes alot of us use it up here.
I personally tend to stay away from using herring because I think it attracts dogfish.( I had 0 dogfish and 0 skates this year! a personal best!)
I use the Jersey doodlebug set up. Float a worm and have been very successful so far.
The rips up there are incredible and the surf can come in fast and wipe you on your butt so be careful. Know the tides. By that I mean time and height.
It is very different fro IBSP.
More later.

Don't be scared off by silly posts. New England has prime striper grounds.
Many of which are right out your back door, as ttbob said.
I recommend the river if you are into nut-bar fishing in the spring.
If you want a quiet place with fish PM me.
