I took the trip yesterday just to see how the Island was faring the winter.
All in all it looks pretty good.
It seems the brunt of the winter has taken it's toll on the South end.
There are many more mountains of marsh grass and trash than I have seen in years. Not to mention the wood. Enormous trees have buried themselves in the sand.
Due to so many nor'easters the lobstermen didn't seem to be able to rescue their traps. Suffice it to say they are buried all over the Island.
Boardwalk 5 is still closed because there is still no boardwalk. It seems they need some volunteer help to rebuild.
Boardwalk one is closed because a storm took out the lower stairs.
This happens year after year and as needed the refuge replaces these stairs.
I have seen years where we didn't even need stairs and years when there was a 10' drop. But I see sand already building back up.
So I guess what I am hoping for is a storm that will take all the junk of the South End and leave the North end alone.
I saw tons of beach, all we can do is kepp our fingers crossed.
This is a link to my pics from yesterday.
