Default Charles River

I want to fish the Charles this year for stripers. Does anyone know how far into the river they go? Do they go all the way to the dam at Watertown to chase herring? Any help would be appreciated.

They come as far as the watertown dam. but most dont come past the galen st bridge where it gets shallow.

there are signs up prohibiting anyone to take herring, new this year. I dont know if this is only for a part of the run.

I believe it is illegal until Jan 2009 to possess bluebacks or alewife. I have 3 frozen that I got in Catskill NY and I can't use them - in fact I'm breaking the law right now.

thanks. I didn't know they closed the harvesting everywhere, I fugured just there.

I have seen 18"+ american shad going over the watertown dam in past years, that is something to see. It is good to see them rebound.

Last year there were less herring at the run than I can remember, but the year before that was a very strong run, even into early june.
