Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Knowing that this bad weather should pass , when the playoff starts conditions should be fair . The only plus about watching NCAA football & MLB, NFL this weekend the weather keeps most of us inside 48 degrees & rain maybe 50 or so high for the day . On that note : the visiting out-laws (wedding ) are gone back home .

The Mets aren't exactly blasting into the playoffs on all cylinders.

if you look back thru the year ..there is a player who won't get much headline & press but Mets needed d'Arnaud in the line up

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
what a ridiculous play; baseball needs to get this right; Utley slides right at Tejada high and does not come close to bag; I thought he should have been out for that; they rule throw was not close enough for a proximity call and yet Tejada missed the bag by less than an inch...no proximity; and then that give Utley the bag when he never touched it because he went at Tejada and not bag and was called out; I was taught always go for the bag regardless; how does he get second when he runs into the shortstop and never touches the base; baseball needs to fix this; a terrible play/call to effect a game and possibly series; just awful; and Utley should be careful at the plate

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Billy agree BUT for every umpire ( all year ) has been calling the double plays when the 2nd or SS receives the ball & sweeps the bag w/ foot or does not touch the base at all , therefor the umpire makes the call out . NOW all of a sudden ( playoffs ) w/ instant replay this judgement is nonexistence.
Yes baseball needs to fix this ! get rid of instant replay another thing ( as many ) Bud screwed up for baseball .
It looked like it was not a slide to intentionally hurt ... but yes to break up the DP
as an player of the game ( not professional ) SS / 2b do have a few scars from high cleats .

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
you can take out the DP but I thought the rule was if you go at the player and not the bag, which Utley did, you were called out...and it was a very high whole body slide..I think it was not a "fair" attempt to break up; and as I said, used to be at the player not the bag you were out

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
I BELIEVE the base line is 3 feet , With that WHY isn't the runner called out : example rounding 3rd base ? Why is the coach WAY out of the coaches box ? answer BECAUSE
Sliding into 2nd base might be a judgement call by the umpire ,THAT SLIDE was something not any different than what has been going on for decades , If your the Mets YES you got rubber hosed !
Instant Replay was dreamed up NFL, MLB so officiating games can't be fixed or altered .... good luck !

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Chase Utley has a history of doing exactly what he did last night. I found his conduct appalling and beyond unsportsmanlike. Too important in these games to retaliate but certainly if one of these games is out if hand I would want my pitcher to retaliate. And I would want him to retaliate with amuch higher pitch than the Arrietta retaliation in the Wild Card game.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Hook1, whenever I need some comical relief I take you off my disregard list and see what you are babbling about.
The 3' wide path (not base line) to first base is there because you are allowed to overrun the base.
The base line is there because you are not allowed to interfere in fair or foul territory outside the path with a throw to first base.
You don't see them painting a base "path" anywhere else on the field last time I looked.
