I had the pleasure of light tackle fishing with Steve F and Dirk yesterday, Sunday, November 16, 2003. We launched at the Hanover Street ramp at 6:00 AM and started fishing a point close by with topwater, suspended jerkbait and soft plastic lures. We couldn't get any bites after a few drifts so we headed out to the Chesapeake Bay.

The water color was a light tan with visibility of about 2" and the temperature was in the low 50's. We traveled to structures that nominally hold striped bass and perch this time of year, but not yesterday. Only a few marks were showing on the finder, but we still gave each structure a few drifts. We didn't see one bird working the water all day.

The water didn't clear up until just inside (city side) of the Key Bridge. We fished hard until 4:00 PM and ended up catching a few dink stripers and very small white perch.

It turned out to be a very enjoyable day fishing in calm waters, even with the lack of catching.

Tight Lines,

Tom Hughes
