Default Investment Talk -- where is your money?

The favorable tax treatment of IRAs is a no-brainer. Keeping it short, I was one of the first people in my system to get on a IRA when they first came out. Maybe we should start a thread. But it might miff some people off. We are supposed to be lieing about our surfcasting prowess.

This is a relative discussion in my eyes. I'd like to stop working at 50 and concentrate on some fishing. Averi would be 31 and hopefully on her own path.

I currently throw money at the Vanguard 500 fund
Traditional 401k

I have been paying close attention silver and gold as well but havent ventured into that arena yet. My 401k finds were oucked for me but I need to change them I think. 3% seems a bit low for a return. Most of my pay is comission based so I use the 401k to reduce some of that tax liability.

Whats next I'm not sure. I've thought about buying some land just to hold on to.

I like land

But i am heavy into surf plugs - when the world ends custom plugs will be the new currency!

I am into the stock market. When the market crunched on Monday I was putting in reserve buys at hopefully the low before the recovery. I am talking about good stocks and not penny stocks which I consider a lottery ticket as better odds.

As anything else you have to do your homework but so far so sweet.

Not to derail but, I don't know much about investing but I do know something about math. I think you might need to check yours here.

At my age, risk tolerance has vanished.

I keep hearing talk about retirement vanishing, I hope it still exists by the time I'm ready to...

It may vanish or not, but just be diversified. I watched my portfolio go down, then up, several times. I've got a REIT that nearly vanished, but will likely cash out at double the investment later this year. But I'm not rich nor am I "set" either. Have $ in a 401K, company stock plan, the REIT, an annuity, and miscellaneous stocks.

Just want enough to live off on and that will last so I won't be a burden to my kids.

Lord willing it will be ready and enough and still there in 7-10 years when I need it.

See, that's why I need to save money. To pay people to do math for me.

Team Phil I am not planning on it being around, just in case.

Will you still keep him if the minimum wage goes up
