Default Atlantic County Surf Derby - 2016 edition

likewise, I'll catch it on this one, but again, this gives you 4x4 access to the *next* island down, which otherwise is foot only, from Ed Berger at Tackle direct:

The Atlantic County Surf Derby will kick off on September 26 and run through November 13 this year. We tacked two weeks on the back end since the fishing was so good late and so bad early for the last couple years.

This is the only time during the year when you can drive your buggies on the beaches of Atlantic City, Ventnor and Margate (used to be Longport too, but they bagged on us this year.... 'nuff said ).

You need to stop by any local tackle shop (Scott's Dock-Margate, Ship-Shop-Ventnor, One Stop - AC, Riptide - Brigantine) and pay the $25 entry fee to get your badge, then go to the Police Dept in Margate, City Hall in Ventnor, and the City Engineers office in Atlantic City with your Drivers License, Registration, and Insurance Card (AC required a copy of your Insurance Declaration page last year...I'd bring it along to avoid having to re-visit) and you will be given your Beach pass for that respective municipality. The municipalities usually start dealing them out the week before, but I'd go later in the week of the 19th just to be sure, or call ahead to check.

There will be cash prizes from the entry fees in several categories, details at the sign-up shops. The boys tell me that all the tackle shops should have their packages by the end of next week. Proceed from the tournament, after the prizes are awarded and we sock away a few bucks to do next year's logistics, are donated to the Police Benevolent Associations of the participating municipalities.
