Funny how some baseball fans fault the players, take a look @ who was resigned after being busted , fined , no gun was held to the owners head to add them to the club.

Looking back over this thread I don't think anyone is giving the owners a free pass, Major league Baseball was complicit in the whole damn thing. I can't declare that team management started the whole steroid era but I will say probably one or more trainers, with the blessing of coaches, introduced steroids. I can't imagine that so many players did their own research - many of the players were/are not highly educated.

This reminds me that one of my daughters sorority sisters in college graduated from high school with Chipper Jones. She told me in 1995 or 96 that in high school he was so conceited he had a head as big as a watermelon but he was as dumb as a brick. I assume his education came through playing the game, he is an OK guy now and he certainly is a HOF player.

We (old guys), all of us, love Yogi Berra and what he means to MLB and the Yankees but Yogi was not an intellectual giant.

1961 was my 1st visit to the " House that Ruth Built " though the seats were so high up and the players looked so small the smell of hot dogs , stale beer , cigarette smoke, the National Anthem is still clear in my mind today .

Got to go to a few games mets starting in 62 at the polo grounds and the yanks of course but the game I remember most was when I was 10...Bobby Richardson day, met him that day outside the Yankee clubhouse as my dad knew Nestor Chylak, an AL umpire

Thumbs down Re: The 2013 New York Baseball Thread

Boy talk about cheap shots! Ryan "Dumpster" Demspter has been a 3rd rate pitcher his whole career and proved it again last night. He even had the audacity to state in the post-game interview that he wasn't trying to hit A-Rod.

If MLB doesn't fine or suspend him they are going to look like they are complicit and it becomes "open season" on A-Rod.

I'm getting damn tired of MLB permitting and condoning the vilification of A-Rod by innuendo, leaks, anonymous sources and cheap stunts. Time for Bud Selig to retire.

Love A-Rod's new lawyer, Joe Tacopina. In NY legal circles he is infamous, a Great White Shark that goes for the kill and wins.

That truly was the worst cheap shot I can recall seeing.

It's really going to be a wild ride with Tacopina on board Arod's team

Do you guys remember when Pedro Martinez hit both Soriano & Jeter and sent them to the hospital? Musina was pitching, did not retaliate. The Sox have a history of taking cheap shots not just at the Yankees but that's their favorite target.

Martinez pushing Zimmer to the ground was the worst I have ever seen in any professional sport. Even worse than Woody Hayes of Ohio State shoving a player running by him.

I'm just wondering what is different, what changed here from your stand last year in a very similar situation RobS?

"I think purpose pitches are part of the game.... or were

Too much pampering.. the kid took a plunk and went on to get Hamels back...

The league would have, and should have, stayed out of it"

Sounds like when it happens to your team it is not OK?

If anyone should be fined and/or suspended it should be the idiot umpire who allowed it to continue after the first pitch. He was as guilty as Dempster might have been, did not control the game as is his duty as HP umpire. This is a great example that bullying in schools is a learned behavior from the adults who kids look up to.

Doug
