LOL. YD, I hope that was on purpose. I'm still taking flack from my brother Bees on my blunder on my 30#er. I was in such a hurry to get that beauty back into the water that I didn't check the photo until she was swimming away.

have the same concerns about the bass situation; here in SJ I have caught 130+ bass, with 2 keepers; one at 28in (with a 24 on the teaser) and one close to 30in; have seen about 10 in the 35-42in class; most years would see that many every 2 days in my stretch of beach; great numbers of small fish and very few mid-sized; tons of big blues and a nice number of weakies in the 22-26 in range; is it time to be more radical in striper management

I first noticed the problem tog fishing back about that time (5-6 years ago)... that the teen sized stripers we *always* got in our back bays disappeared. You'd get them either targeting them at tog bridges, or incidentally while tog fishing , the tog takes.. you set, then whomp get a second hit and striper on. One year they were just gone and haven't been back.

Then last fall it was a desert here, and this year... we are seeing mostly big bass and sardine-sized bass, with only a few teens around.

I've had a decent spring and have caught a few in the 30 to 35 range but have noticed this as well. Most of my in the back spots that used to hold fish, just are devoid of life, and these were spots I could always count on pulling in a few within a certain window of the tide.

why don't they just turn over fishery management to us on this site; things would get better; 2 fluke at 16; cut off stripers or else 1 at 24-28; get out of the way and let us manage things; a little revolution can be a good thing

Bill, Since you don't owe anyone and no one owes you, you make perfect common sense!
Because of phrase one and phrase two, YOU our good fishing friend, are disqualified and ineligible, to make the decision, no matter how much science and educated observations you may have considered in arriving at your solution. Between the piping plovers, strange sailors at the nude beaches, notching jetties, illegal seine netting and sand pumping onto the shoreline, the only one who may be able to help us is the Bishop of Trenton, if he can be persuaded to perform an exorcism.

I got to the sod bank behind IBSP for the top half of the tide yesterday and witnessed what I think was the swan song of the bay's spring bluefish wave. I landed just one at 4-5# and had 2 other smacks and misses. The wind, water and tide flow were just right, and I had another guy show up to help who usually out-catches me by a wide margin (Hi Hans!) He got nada.

It's time to change gears and think about targeting other fish like fluke and weaks, I guess. I can relax, anyway, and start casting my mind to summer sunsets and gentle breezes.

You didn't miss anything. 4 small blues for me. I had a better fight snagging cabbage and driftwood in the current, a lot of runoff from our rainy Weather.

I fished for a fluke in the back in the kayak...6am to 1pm ...pretty slow...managed 2 keepers ( 18.5" and 20") with 4 shorts and couple of fish lost...there were some blues around harassing my gulped jigs... got 2 small cocktail blues...water was 68F and got windy in afternoon...it was very warm...time to ditch dry suit and get in to short sleeves and pants...summer is here

It's a start, conditions sucked for crabbing (from Monday).

Raining and windy with a super high tide but very promising for next trip out...I can already tell it will be a crab slaughter.
