You are right ...this does not need further explanation...so the bass is still around if you know where to find them...

Moco 2PM dead low slack tide Out in front ESE wind. Nice water knee to waist high swell and a choppy surface. Under gunned myself with the 8 1/2 foot casting pole and light gear. Fished the shallow pools and caught three large healthy sundials one on a bucktail the other two on the 3/4 ounce hammered spoon. Nothing on the new teaser I tied and epoxied last night with some new material and wanted to test. I like the way it looks, but no takers. Several boats trolling a m ill in front of me and appeared to be into the striped ones. Here's the teaser.

Late report, the blues are still around. Picked up 15 while missing that many. I'll still stick with the single hook, (easy release, and if it's close enough to the beach, a quick release.)

I got to IBSP for the falling tide yesterday morning and was happy to find that the blues are still cruising along. I was throwing chunks to save my shoulder some wear and tear and the pick was steady to the point I had to put aside one of my two rods for a bit. The water was just beautiful! Wind kicked up by noon to a steady 10 to 15 from the SE and it was time to go.
I don't doubt that early on, when the wind was zero and the tide at the top, that plugs would have produced just fine.
I found that cut up American shad was preferred by the blues by 2 to 1 over bunker.

Mr. Barbosa, I give up - what were the bits and beanlike objects on the cutting board?

John, there's no bacteria on that cutting board, is there?

Nothing doing from the surf this morning. Lots of weed, didn't see anything interesting except a couple of dolphins in the inlet.

I am told they are whelk snails - some of us (me) incorrectly call them conch.

Pretty sure the red shells are the remnants of a small lobster.

Yesterday we fished the SI Tuna Club's Armed Forces Invitational Striped Bass tournament.

We picked up the two Veterans assigned to our boat, Warren and Richard, from Great Kills and were released to go fishing around 8:15am.

We ran out front to where we have been catching consistently only to find that most of the bait has been pushed outside the 3 mile line where we can't legally fish and sucked the bass out with them (wind &/or full moon?)

We trolled the ocean side from Sandy Hook all the way to Deal without a tap and very few signs of life.

Around 2pm I made the choice to give up on trying to catch a big ocean bass and headed to one of our reliable back bay spots just to get these vets some bass and shake the skunk.

We had action right away but they were mostly smaller fish that kept hitting mojos but couldn't take them down.

The guys managed to pull two keeper bass out of the shorts which will give them some nice dinners.

Overall very tough fishing on this tournament day....39 boats and only 4 weigh-ins total.

Thank you to all the veterans out there who fought to keep us safe and to the SI tuna club for putting on a great event as usual.

First trip to the hook since last fall despite my favorite places being off limits .

My son came with. Plan was to fluke. Got into a bunch of blues on our fluke rods..BIG FUN!!! And a great memory with my son.

10 for me, six came unbuttoned, lots of blow ups. My two largest were 30", plenty at two feet or but more. Poppers for us, guys down the beach had metal.

Bottom of outgoing

Nice going John some good karma coming your way.

Tough conditions this morning with the full moon tide, managed to pull out 6 flatties, with a nice 22.5", everything on the teaser. Hitting a local lake in the am and then back to the fluke Monday morning.
