Forked River, NJ
(June 1, 2006) – The New Jersey Angler Magazine
, the region’s largest monthly fishing publication, has announced that it will air the 2006 edition of its award-winning television show, The New Jersey Angler Video Magazine
, on Comcast Sportsnet starting June 7th
. The show will air three times each week – Wednesdays at 4:30pm, Saturdays at 5:00pm, and Sundays between noon and 2pm, through August, 2006. Viewers are urged to check local listings, as airtimes may change slightly on a weekly basis.
In its first season on a number of local and regional cable channels, The New Jersey Angler Video Magazine
earned both a coveted Telly Award for “Best Regional Sports Program†and a broad, dedicated viewer base. Now in its second season, the show is poised to reach a mainstream audience throughout the Delaware Valley, something no regional fishing program has ever done.
Like its print counterpart, the television show is designed to showcase the very best fishing New Jersey has to offer, and to divulge a fact that many local anglers have known for years – that New Jersey is home to some of the very best fishing in the world.
“Our primary goal is to raise public awareness of the world-class fishing opportunities that exist in our waters,†said co-host Darren Dorris. “We specifically chose episodes that would make a real impact on people by showing them how close to home and how accessible great fishing can be. The fact is that people don’t have to travel to the Outer Banks, Florida, Alaska, or Hawaii to experience outstanding fishing action. It’s all right here in New Jersey!â€
Episodes include both saltwater and freshwater fishing, and address everything from fishing shallow rivers and bays to pursuing big game species in the offshore canyons. Striped bass, fluke, bluefish, weakfish, black drum, tuna, bonita, albacore, dolphin, sharks, largemouth bass and other freshwater species will be showcased. “Fishing in New Jersey means different things to different people,†said co-host Bill Donovan. “One of our goals is to expose just how varied fishing in the Garden State can be.â€
Comcast Sportsnet is one of the most widely-viewed cable channels in the extended Philadelphia market, and it the source of telecasts for the Phillies, Flyers and 76ers. The channel is available to all Comcast Cable subscribers in central and southern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and all of Delaware. “Were thrilled that Comcast Sportsnet has picked up the show for its second season,†said Donovan. “The channel’s demographics are perfect for us, and its huge viewership practically ensures that this will be one of the most consequential media projects in the history of New Jersey fishing.â€
