Thumbs up 5 for 5

I guess the voting has already been done but....... I think that guy born in NJ, raised in Michigan and working in the Bronx showed everyone tonight why he should be the 2006 AL MVP!

Did you see - Johan Santana is human!

Worst Case Scenario (NIGHTMARE) for FOX Sports for the World Series.

San Diego vs Oakland: Would anyone watch the Series?

Naaaah. Worst case for TV is another all NY series. Great for you guys, but the rest of the country could give a hoot; all-time low ratings last time around.

More people would watch SD/A's, two cities from the most populous state. Except the games would have to start at 4 local for the national TV broadcast.

Thumbs down Re: 5 for 5

Chuck your "factoid" is woefully inaccurate. I repeat San Diego vs Oakland would be really awful, see Angels vs Giants, the 2nd lowest ratings in WS history. AND it went 7 games!

In the last 10 years what team is the biggest draw playing on the road?

Why do you think people didn't watch the Angels/Giants? Think it could have had anything to do with intense dislike of Barry Bonds?

Look at the Yanks/Mets ratings: third lowest in your selected sample, and at the time the lowest-rated Series in history. Nobody outside your area could give a rat's patoot.

Sure people go to see their hometeam play the Yanks... but that's their hometeam, not the Mets. For Pete's sake, Marlins/Tribe was higer-rated than 4 out of 5 Yankees series, including 2001 which went 7 and also had a post-9/11 bump built in.

You have to factor in cable at some point, but taking 1980 as a starting point, since then each WS the Spankies have played in (except '81 vs Dodgers) has been among the ten least-watched. That's 8 out of the bottom 10, and we're talking over a span of 25 Series.

Royals/Cards, Dodgers/A's and Cards/Brewers all rated way higher than Mets/Yanks, sort of blowing the argument that reigional matchups will not be watched out of the water. People didn't watch the Giants or the Yankees for much the same reason: nobody likes them.

Exclamation Re: 5 for 5

Quote:
MLB.com: New records were set in New York, Chicago and the Los Angeles area. The Yankees and Mets combined to draw 7,627,602; the Cubs and the White Sox totaled 6,080,629; and the Dodgers and the Angels combined for 7,165,335.
Mmmmmmm over 7,627,602 people attended the Yankees & Mets home games this year. That is getting pretty close to the entire population of New York City and is precisely 10.03% of the total number of people who attended major league baseball games this season (76,043,902).

Without NY metro fans and viewers everyone is in deep shit.

The opposite is true, people watched the Angels/Giants series because of Bonds.

Explain the worst ever - ChiSox vs Astros.

Why do you think that all the Yankees/Tigers Division series games are scheduled at night?

He finally finished in the top 3 of an offensive catagory and all of a sudden its a done deal, he is MVP. I think its only the second time in his career he has done that.

These guys love Jeter, how much of it is true?www.torontobaseballguys.com/jeter.html

Jeter is a very good player, but over rated.

Walter, Explain to me how he is over rated. I don't think he is in the top ten of all baseball players. I think he is a very good to excellent ballplayer like you stated so how does that make him over rated? I think any team would take him on their team in a heartbeat.

Oy. The Yankees and Mets are going to be wildly popular throughout the land because they draw huge crowds at home? In the most densely populated city in the country? Yeah, New York is the biggest media market in the country - so what? Other than profit-sharing, it only means they can afford ten times the payroll of the D-backs or Marlins and still lose to them. Yer only reinforcing my point: the only people that care about them are those of you who live up there.

Bonds drew viewers? You sure it wasn't the Rally Monkey?

SD/A's vs Yanks/Mets? Who knows which would get worse ratings; they are the two least appealing of any of the possible combinations, closely followed by the Yanks vs anyone else.

Hey, Walter!

Jeter's a damned good player, and a clutch one at that.

A-rod has numbers (and so do a lot of other players) but Jeter has heart.

here is an interesting (anti sort of) Jeter thread http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=39394

Chuckles, How can you say that the only people that care about them are from up here. If you notice the Yankees sell out wherever they go and the place is usually pretty full of Yankee fans.

Okay, perhaps I should rephrase: the only people who care about them are Yankees fans, wherever they are located. The ratings bear this out.
