My old rig, Windows XP, was totally infected and a friend had a spare Windows 7 left over from a retired professional to give me. I am starting to get used to it but I don't like the transition. Thank you for the concern.

you won't like Windows 7 for a while, but it is supported and will run smoothly (well, as smoothly as Windows *can* run )

I fought the same war and now learning 7 also. Trouble is the clock for support is running for 7 with Microsoft wanting you to buy 8 by the way is rumored to suck. Don't go to the computer store and look for a new computer with 7 in it. The only hope is to make do until Windows 9 comes or bust for a Mac. You will note practically all Windows XP software does not work in 7 unless you can find an update online.

edit: I realize that Merlin and Frank are just dealing with a new operating system and are probably
not up for dropping $500+ for a new computer... but for those who are....

Too late for Frank I suppose but my recommendation is to go with
a mac mini.

You can use your same monitor and for $50 you install an app
called "Parallels" which lets you run Windows as an apple "app"
so you can still get at (your now re-installed) windows applications.

In my case that's limited to Microsoft Office and another program
(a few others if I want but haven't gotten around to reinstall)

IT WORKS VIRTUALLY FLAWLESSLY and believe me runs
*better* than my windows 7 laptop I use for work.

Then you get to stay on the reliable MAC system and
not deal with constant issues.

ping our grand master Bob D'Amico who set me down
this path of enlightenment

Microsoft is such a terrible company. Their software really blows. Outlook might be the worst program I've ever used, just horrible.

Slow, buggy, and more susceptible to viruses than a virgin in a Panamanian whorehouse -- that's the Microsoft way.

My hunting student, who is a computer guru in real life, gave me a new rig that is working much better. So it looks like things here will return to normal. Cost: Zilch!

Hits, questions, and overall member participation are presently at a distressing level. I have put up a couple of posts in the hope of generating a little action here. Also, if anyone has any input as to why we are so slow, feel free to talk it up.

Well it could be the lack of disposal money and because of lack of time. People are not looking forward to good times but concentrated on the world's problems. Survival sites are booming and of course the sale of black guns (for what I do not know).

There is also the two or three day lapses taken by our host that leave a gap in the flow of things (not to mention any names).

More on this later, but I think a huge factor is the explosion in social media... facebook and the like

I lapse because nobody is posting. I have the time and interest to respond every day I mean even if I were out straight writing, fishing and hunting, I could respond while I'm taking a dump BTW, I am pleased that yuz are responding to this. And you, Rich, are among my favs so don't go to west Africa.

Kisses and hugs forget it!. Arm length hugs will work for me. That said any chat, conversation is like a tennis match where both parties have to hit back. By the way I am not a tennis fan, sort of like watching paint dry. I did have an ex girlfriend that after we broke up and still connected on line, she was like playing that tennis game chat with a snow ball. Perhaps she was sending me a hint?

I always hated those lapses too Merlin! I've enjoyed reading some old threads. There's some good copy back there in those pages.
