I recently purchased a Penn 965 and I am having some difficulty finding a good match in a rod for it. Primarily I will use this for eeling the RI breachways and coast. Can you recommend a manufacturer and model? Spring is on it's way ........
Thanks

I'm guessing that Mr. Frank would take a look at the 965 and think it's a little small. It holds less than 200 yards of 20lb mono and if you put a heavy braid on it you will be tossing down Jacksons for a new spool often. I love the reel but think it is more of a finesse light to medium application plugging and eeling reel that is probaby to light for the breachways.

If F doesn't mind me saying so I'd return it and get a 975 which is the next size up. TO answer your original question though, try a Sabre 1087 or 1088 which is a very nice inexpensive custom blank. I don't use Lami that much anymore because of the $$. Just my opinion, now pass me a brewski and let's hear what the big boss has to say....

Good boy, Dave!
I was going to give this poor buggar one of those panic code anwers like HOWTHEFDOIKNOWMAMAN. I shouldn't encourage breaking the protocols, but we got some people, like yourself, who know the subject and old Frank and with discretion, it works. I did fear that he was getting ready to striper fish with trout tackle and I hate seeing a guy wretching on a jetty on a good night. Nice thoughtful post but don't put your hand on my girl friend's knee no more.

Thanks for the response. Point taken. Time to trot back to the tackle shop and upgrade before I end up hurling behind the dunes ....
Call it a learning curve. Thanks for helping to straighten out the road and hopefully tighten my line.
