I've never seen a blue eel, so what colors has to do with catching big fish . Well, perhaps this fish was colors blind

ever see a live eel that got the snot beat out of him? they get a bluish hue.

They also turn a blueish color when they die...

Sound like Iron Mike knows how to play dead eel with a needelfish better than the real thing.

Next time u see a pod of sand eels in the surf shine ur light on em...

Now I can't express an opinion. I think color details plays critical role in day time but not so much at night unless it is a mag darter in black

I've got more hours than I can count fishing needlefish and I have the outmost respect for them as one of my most productive lures. By far the best way to fish them is a slow steady retrieve. I can say that no other lure will cover as much water because they truly cast as rockets! I find them best at night and dawn, not as great during the day unless its sloppy out. At dusk they are productive if you pop them as a "Pencil Popper". For what ever reason, I have found not found them as productive in NJ. I have seen much more sand eels up in the northern states along with needlefish feeding on bait, seen it every season in Eastern LI, CT, RI, and Mass.....Favorite colors, PARROT, Black, and white.....
