I'm from Nj and am going to Chatham on the Cape from 9/8 - 9/15. I plan on hiring a guide on one of those days. I have two questions....any recommendations of light tackle LURE ONLY guides either on fly or spin that are in the Chatham area? Secondly..i would like to do some shore fishing also while I am there (cant afford a guide everyday of the week). How is the surf fishing this time of year around Chatham? What lures are good? Most importantly though would love to know a decent area from the surf that I can fish. Not looking for anyones "honey hole", just a general area that might support some fish. If I could ever help anyone about the NJ surf...please let me know. Thanks guys...its great we have this forum to help each other out

You can park at Chatham light after 5:00PM and walk down stairs to right. Becareful in this area there are very strong currents. The first bar you come to at the point is good. Try drifting sand ells or using a lure. As you continue south there are several good spots, points and holes- read the beach and you will do fine. The fishing should begine to improve by mid September. Good Luck

Dont for get to try the bay side if the MUNG is in the ocean. Try the Herring river on the incoming high. I did really well there last year with the bass and the blues....

Hi Fish Bait,

I had heard that the seals had cleaned the fish out of that area.

I hope you are right and the fishing is still OK there???
