I was fishing Barnegat Bay on a flat. Around dark I had a ton of worms on the surface coming off the flat on the outgoing tide. What type of worms are these? The are leaving the strak of like oil or sent residue beahind them on the water. I wasn't sure what type of worms they were. They look whitish and about 4 to 5 inches long. They don't look anything like a sandworm or blood. They actually look more like a earth worm

They were most probably cinder worms. A good fly pattern imitating them can be one of the only things that will produce fish during a hatch like that.

note to self: DON'T wade-fish during a cinder hatch!
