Exclamation No fishing after dark in Seaside Heights

Got to love this state. There is a vote today at 5pm, to restrict access to the beach after 9pm in Seaside Heights. Not good if you fish that stretch at all. If you can or want to voice your opposition to this call the borough (732-793-9100) or go to the meeting at 5, to protest this ridiculous rule. Here's a link to the article.

Andrew L. Chambarry, C. O. B. R. A., I spoke with Chris Dodds today (Seaside Borough Administrator). For what it's worth, he certified that this Ordinance is not directed at fisherman. He said that a fisherman has never been ticketed or stopped trying to access the beach at night and this Ordinance will not be used to do that. Actually, they already have a 10 PM restriction on the books, and that is not enforced against average beachgoers or fishermen. He said this restriction is used only for unruly crowds after the bars let out. Seemed like a nice guy - just passing along this information.

I do understand however, that the black letter of these ordinances are not right. Towns should not have laws on the books if they are not going to be enforced. There is always the possibility that an ordinance can be enforced on any given day. Must keep an eye on laws like this.

The Borough Council unanimously adopted Ordinance 2017-11 at a public meeting held on April 19th. The ordinance amends Chapter 33 of the Borough Code, entitled ?Beaches. ? Responding to complaints received from guests and residents, Borough Council adopted the ordinance modifying beach operating hours; regulating the use of tents and food storage devices on the beach; limiting the size of coolers; prohibiting e-cigarettes; and prohibiting feeding seagulls, dogs, cats and foxes. However, Borough Council will introduce amendments at the next Council meeting scheduled for May 3rd that will address some of the comments received from numerous persons and organizations. The amendments will include: 1) permitting canopy style sun shades 12' x 12' or less without side walls (rather than 10' x 10' or less) ; clarifying that operating hours Monday through Thursday are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (not 6:00 p.m.); deleting the restriction from remaining on the bay beaches after 9:00 p.m.; and clarifying that people actively engaged in sport fishing are permitted on the beach after operating hours.

Thanks for the update. Not that I fish there, but figured if it was off limits, the guys that fished there would hit other spots and find some of my spots.

That is one of the biggest issues every time we lose another spot to fish.

Those fishermen have to go somewhere else and the crowding issue multiplies!

Thanks for the heads up
