Hopefully the S/A System 2 L fly reel and backing will be sufficient. If not I will give up to my 10 weight. Any thoughts? Thanks YD ( This is getting exciting already!)
I echo Yard's comment. Lots of good, useful information for those of us interested in taking a fly rod to the surf or bay.

you'll do fine with that setup, though I never like casting with wire on the end, which I why I try to go without. Fun thing about blues in the shallows is that they jump!

The 8 weight will handle them no issues - that is what I typically use. I go to the 10wt if its going to be windy as it's easier to cast with more line weight.

I like the tippet rings for freshwater especially the micro version when using tiny flies. A bunch of my friends have gone to the 50lb Spro swivels. They are about the same price and pretty much weightless but much stronger.

It seems we all have "buck fever"... Next week is showing signs of easing a bit. Now I have to decide whether it's trout in PA or the NJ surf/bays. Oh hell....BOTH!!!

John, I have a 10 weight Loomis that can handle an 11 line, but the 8 weight casts better probably because it is lighter in the hand and less fatiguing. YD

Jumper, I tweaked your pattern a little. I still made a few of the other.
