Exclamation Heads up! IBSP

TEMPORARY MOBILE SPORT FISHING VEHICLE ADVISORY
at Island Beach State Park

Piping Plovers, an endangered species of shorebird, have nested in Island Beach State Park?s Southern Natural Area. Under federal law, the Plover is listed as ?threatened? and as such, IBSP is required to close this area to vehicle traffic when the eggs are expected to hatch. Consequently, on Friday, June 23, 2017, a section of beach will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic. The vehicle barrier will be erected approximately 1200 meters (3/4 mile) north of the jetty. Foot traffic is allowed unless otherwise posted. No dogs are allowed in the closed area at any time. The NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife has placed protective fencing around the nest to keep it safe from predators, such as seagulls and fox. The closed area is clearly marked with warning signs and posts.

Mobile Sport Fishing Vehicles (MSFVs) will be afforded the maximum amount of beach allowed by Federal Law. There will be 5.0 miles of beach still open for MSFVs. The Gillikins MSFV entrance is open and not affected by the temporary closing.

PLEASE BE ADVISED that due to the temporary closure, IBSP may reach its capacity of MSFVs sooner than normal. Should this be the case, IBSP will close to MSFVs. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the next generation of New Jersey?s shorebirds has a safe and successful start on our beach.

So why is it that you can still walk along the beach and fish, but yet I can't walk up to the false hook and fish along the water. Sorry Jess, I am just a sore loser

The difference is the people up there are naked which is a bad influence on baby chicks.

I don't know Bay, after all this is NJ. Does anything make sense?

The only possible thing that comes to mind is the location of the eggs in reference to the water.

Actually I take that back. Brigantine is managed in the same way as IBSP, and I believe it's federal, part of Forthsythe, so not sure.

It is a call made by the park superintendent. Some lean towards the birdwatchers and tree huggers few towards the sportsmen. Easy to tell by the resulting closures which is which.

Naked isn't so bad, I had the pleasure of seeing a hottie sunning the twins the other day, at 62, that and a bent rod gets my blood flowing

Brigantine is not federal. One part of Forsythe used to be called "Brigantine Refuge" but it is not part of Brigantine. Brigantine is state but the entrances are city, hence the city sticker.

A very good Striper beach in Ct. where decades of easy fishing was very friendly between fisherman and the Plovers . What separates between working together is A$$hole fisherman where they can't follow rules . Now the Bird lovers Association became so irate ,powerful , they are saying FU and taking the beaches back . It's almost as bad as the wealthy beachfront home owners who are closing access to the public .

Thanks, Bob... figures you would know... made me look it up

Information About the North End of Brigantine

Who owns the ?North End? of Brigantine?

The North End Beach is divided into two separate sections. After vehicles enter the beach at 15th Street North, the first 0.25 miles of beach heading north is owned by the City of Brigantine. The remaining portion of the northern end (about 2.75 miles) is owned by the State of New Jersey and is officially designated as the North Brigantine Natural Area. The New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry administers the site through its office at Bass River State Forest. A sign indicating where the Natural Area begins is posted.

I think they'd trap and kill a fox before giving up a plover nest.

Brigantine beach has already done away with the foxes. Hard to justify killing one group of animals to allow another to live. Joe

The folks who don't like foxes don't like fisher people either!
