quiet on the beach today; one Jack and something called a Florida Yellowjacket; my nephew identified it from a cellphone pic; said it has toxins in the spine that will cause several hours of real pain; I had my fingerless gloves on and maybe they saved me; learn every day

On a much more mundane front, I have schmoozed my way into a hotel room for 2 nights in AC for my conference so I can catch tomorrow's PM high tide and Thursday's sunrise, too, without losing too much sleep. I hope there are fish to brighten my visit, but none with toxic spines.

nice fish, I spent about 5 hours in different places in the water today and nada. I did get the watch the wave in front of you reminder today in monmouth beach. also if anyone finds an olive and white plug in that area, give it a good home it was good to me. Apparently you have to open the bail Every-time you cast.

No fish in casting distance witnessed in ocean or back bay for me.

and... it helps to manually close the bail after each cast as well.

lost lures due to both methods (shut bail and "wind" knots).

as an aside, I do remember fishing a big yellow pencil during daylight, lots of guys out, and it snapped off for whatever reason and sat out in the fairly flat surf, easy casting distance. A guy next to me made a sweet cast, snagged it, and gave it back to me

looking for tog later today, will be trying a bottom sweeper jig as a change.

Beautiful afternoon yesterday, best I've had in a while. Tog were biting, although could only hit the end of the incoming. At most spots, there are windows when the bite turns on, is hot, then turns off and we hit that like clockwork. So, nothing huge but all healthy, fat and two of us each kept a keeper. Where I fish, togging will be hot from now until the ocean temp drops to near 50F. As long as the water is fairly clean, it's on.

Atlantic City is red hot for tog. I spectate awhile yesterday and saw a 6 pound fish caught along with several modest keepers and lots of little ones..
Nobody has seen a striper from the shore for several days. I've been blessed to witness a couple fabulous sunrises.

We did try the sods for stripers for a bit on the way back in yesterday, with no results. Very hunt and peck, find a school or lone striper here or there. On the surf down there its' *mostly* a bait and wait deal, except at night, when one would go combing the rocks and pilings of piers looking for bait and action. I can count on 2 fingers the number of "blitzes", and on the other hand the number of true "hot bites", I've seen (or heard about) down here in the past 10 years, and even those pale compared to what can happen northwards. But there are stripers around, just not in huge numbers.

If the bunker come close, we will get some hot action in the inlets come November time frame, usually just in time for me to get swamped with other things that prevent me from getting out... same old same old storywise....
