I need a little info on martha's vineyard or fishing near there in mass.

How much can i expect to spend for a ferry to the island? The wife and i are thinking about heading there for a budget mini vacation next weekend. She just wants to go to the ocean and i want some good fishing. The only info i cant seem to find is how much a ferry would cost.

Or, does anyone have any suggestions on where we could go (like a state park or something) do a little camping and fishing? Our only goal is to sit on a beach and relax, not interested in the tourism thing, we just want out of the house(and fish). I just want to catch some stripers or blues or both.

Here's a link to the ferry line:

http://www.steamshipauthority.com

They have a "reservations-only" policy (no standby travel) from Friday-Monday in the summer. But they'll take a reservation up to an hour before sailing time---book ASAP tho.

As far as camping goes, it's prohibited everywhere on public land on the island. There is one campground and it's close to where the ferry lands. Call Dan Feeney at MV Family Campgrounds, (508)693-3772 and see if he has any sites available before you make your ferry reservations.

Coop's and Larry's Tackle Shop can give you directions to some public access fishing spots around Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. You're going to run up against "resident-only" parking regs during the day in other places. There's also a public beach in the fishing village of Menemsha where you can walk a little to the right of the bathing beach and fish. Or you could fish from the jetty there.

Really no such thing as a "budget" vacation to the Vineyard.

If all you want to do is hang out and fish you could try something I always wanted to do. Camp at the the campground in Bourne that is right next to the canal, fish the canal, swim at Scusset Beach. Have fun!
