but of course, the yankees are one of a few "national" teams.

I would include the (Red) Sox and Cubs in that group as well.

St. Louis is known as a "pure baseball" town and thus attract some
national attention as well.

Beyond that? squat. all regional interest... at best :p

If thats your assessment than we may agree, and I would say he is not overrated to your assesment. Any team in baseball, including one I would coach, would take him very quickly.

He is a very good player, but here is where I think he is overrated:
-his defense, especially ignoring his below avg range.
-Nice year for avg this year but the top 4 paid guy in the league should be expect to hit like that, he has finished in the top 3 of any major offensive catagory just twice (a 2nd and a 3rd in avg).

I respect him because he tries very hard, he is a very tough at bat, and is a stone cold winner.

Hey Walt, Was just wondering who your pick is to win the Series this year. You know that I am going to pick my Yankees and I think they will be playing the Cards.

Its tough, after the draw in the AL, not to pick the Yankees, however I really liked the Twins chances.
In the NL, I've just have seen the Cards play some really poor baseball down the stretch, I didnt think they would do as well as they are doing. I like the Mets chances, as crazy as it sounds, because they know how they have to swing the bat and any performance by a fill in pitcher will be a perceived bonus, it makes for good psychology for them.

My pick right now would be NYY. They can comeback against Detriot. Randy will have a Rogers-type outing in the WS and end his career. The only thing about the Tigers is they are being coach well for this, Leyland is being loose and aggressive. He is helping his young team stay that way as well. He doesnt give a crap about playing it by the book and careless about the repercussion for him, dangerous ......

Prognosticating is so hard in baseball, thats what makes the playoffs great. You've got Kenny Rogers pitching a gem with a curveball Zito would envy, Torii Hunter and the Twins miscues, the double play at home plate by the Blue Sox (Dodgers-Nomar, Little Lowe) who would have thunk it?

RJ is done; no heroics if the temp doesn't soar into the 80s. That injury doesn't just spontaneously get better. 5 runs in 5 2/3?

Done. Which is too bad - I've been hoping for a Cards/Yanks series for most of my life. Neither is looking destined to make it to the show.

These guys love Jeter, how much of it is true?www.torontobaseballguys.com/jeter.html

Jeter is a very good player, but over rated.
Hi Walter

That was funny

Especially...
21. "Yankees" fans - these are the people who aligned themselves with the Yankees when they started winning in the 90s. They buy the camouflage Yankee hats and think that Shawn Chacon is a blend of coffee offered at Starbucks

Put a fork in the Yanks. They are done.

Torre better get Wong on a plane and have a serious talk in the clubhouse. Johnson didn't do as bad as it looked. Where was the offense? It looked like everyone was trying to hit a homer, swinging at junk. They made Rogers look great. They should have done what they did all year, be patient, make the pitcher work and get base runners to produce runs. You can't let Kenny Rogers throw shutout baseball!!! XXX??!!

Something is seriously wrong in the Yankee Clubhouse.

Benny, Give credit where credit is due. Kenny Rogers was awesome last night. I know what you are saying about taking pitches but if they did that last night the count would have been 0-2 most of the night. His curveball was unbelievable and he basically pitched the game of his life. Yankees win today and get back to Bronx where Wang will finish off the Tigers.

The Gene Michael Days are really the Steinbrenner out of baseball days. Get rid of Sheffield, Giambi, Arod, Lofton (from last year), and surround Jeter, Posada, and Mo with young guys like Green, Melky and you'll have a TEAM, clear leaders, everyone in it together. It would scare me as a Sox fan to see a Broscius or an Oneil come back. George S's mettling is the worse thing for the Yanks.

The Sox have a better team on paper than 2004 (except for CF) but havent had the same team chemistry it had. Plus the Sox have been unable to keep trade situations under wraps so it is difficult to play with your name on the trading block (Loretta. Lowell, and in 2004, look what it did to Nomar). The Sox front office gets a C- this year, only the Beckett Lowell deal saved them from an F (infighting between Lucchino and Epstein led to a wasted off season).
