Why Arod is "the" target is a good question. But clearly he is... it's just that there are others on "the list" no doubt about it (from other "leaks" "rumors") that are of all races in the sport.

So again, why Arod? Maybe because of his high-profile splash, first with the biggest contract in history with Texas, the players union fiasco with the Red Sox and winding up with the hated Yanks.

No idea really.

one other note, if you think yesterday's "pep pills" were equivalent to today's "PEDs" then just look at the power numbers post-strike, compared to previously.

The entire Bonds/McGuire/Sosa fiasco, guys with their heads looking like gorillas compared to their youth, etc etc etc.

HGH and Steroids are another class altogether

So based on “equivalent theory “the post “pep pill " generation Only they are the cheats and their records don't count ?

One famous American quote...." I smoked marijuana in college but I did not inhale”

The whole thing is a mess like a spiders web !

On Arod here's what the media is dishing us ( on the fan a few minutes ago ... Boomer. Esiason)

"The players association is 'outraged' by alex rodriguez's latest charges. That's why he's such a pariah in baseball"

The MLPA is 100% complicit with all the PED usage! What a bunch of hypocrites.

We are in a quagmire with respect to records in MLB (no other sport depends as much on stats and records as baseball, from a fan / media standpoint)

On the one hand, baseball has never been "pure" within the game. Cheating, pushing the limits both on and off the field has been around forever. I don't know where I read a quote from Mantle (again, from memory, not sure the exact quote) that if he had steroids or anything available that would have helped him perform better on the field, he would have taken it.

Anything "between the lines" that isn't explicitly called out by the front office or the umpires has been accepted, with some changes to what is "acceptable" over time.

Spit balls, other doctoring of the balls, bats. Accidentally (/intentionally) spiking other key players. Throwing at their heads in the batters box or running on the field.
Pep pills as indicated, pine tar. Anything folks can think of.

But it seems that the steroid and hgh era ushered in a new level of "cheating".

At first, after the strike, *everyone* involved in baseball cheered it on, wink wink, everyone knowing for a fact that the guys who suddenly grew arms and heads and started cranking the balls were 'on' something. But baseball didn't care. Not the managers, owners, players, media, talk shows, commisioner, no-bod-y.

Until Congress threatened them.

Now everyone 'got religion' and are down on "these bad players" "these abusers and cheaters".

The very ones accusing them are the ones who applauded a few years ago.

That's the irony and that's why the Clemens and Rodriquez's of the world, the big names, are crying 'foul'

They know that many bashing them are themselves abusers/users.

It's a joke.

So what to do with the records? I have no idea.

In my mind, the records are held by the pre-stike players and I don't compare.

Sort of like setting the dead-ball era aside by itself, or the true old time baseball (like the Reds perfect 60-0 season oh so many many years ago).

But what will the record "books" or websites show going foward?

Who is the HR leader? truly?

Don't know the answer to that. Just know that a lot of folks are staring at their navels and wondering what to do.

The Mets finally have a real solid outfield bat.... er, *did* oops

Beltran powers Cardinals past Dodgers 5-1

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Carlos Beltran and his St. Louis teammates weren't focused on the Los Angeles Dodgers' road winning streak.

Watching the Yankees B Team Roster vs White Sox last night I wanted to scream! Felt so bad for Kiroda in the 8th inning I switched to the Rangers-Angels game.

Yanks now 10-1/2 games out and done for.

From now on I'll watch the NL Central Division race Pirates-Cards-Reds, I'm a Cincinnati fan but would love to see the Pirates go all the way.

Would be cool to see the Pirates vs the "Choke" Tigers in the World Series.

BTW I think MLB should get Miguel Cabrera & Prince Fielder to pee in a cup every day!

LOL... agree about Cabrera and Fielder.

For me, I'm with you on the central... I'm pulling for the Pirates too.

Really like the kid McCutchen, their CF.

Whew, Yanks 4 Tigers 3.

Could not believe Cabrera launched Mariano's ball to dead center with his leg hurting!

Justice/Relief that Gardner's single got by Cabrera in the 10th.

Doping: MLB, Players Union and Players are all complicit and guilty.

MLB, doing "wink, wink" has handled it terribly and too many dopers have gotten away with it - here's one - remember Brady Anderson of the O's.

BTW Doesn't look like the Yankees are going to make a move to improve the starting pitching so can they trade Phil Hughes for a batting practice machine or hot/cold tub, ya know something that will be useful for the whole team?

Yeah, last night Cabrera summed up our discussion with Kroc!

And the O's also had another guy whose name is escaping me, 50 hr year after being a Punch and Judy hitter his whole life. There were many many that everyone in the sport gave a pass to.

Brady Anderson. I was listening to WFAN this morning and it seems Jack Clark, who is now a baseball analyst, has made some ped accusations against Albert Pujols. This is never going to end.
