What I don't understand is... why an umpire can call a balk but not a foreign substance on a player's hand / neck ?

So I'm guessing the playoff picture is as follows:

AL:

O's
Angels
Royals/Tigers (one will win the div, other wc)
A's (likely... ahead by 2) or Mariners (only 1 other wc spot)

NL:
Nats
Dodgers
Cards
Bucs
Giants

"See YA"

Hope you enjoyed the game... was that the night Jet hit an HR?

Anyhow, kinda rooting for either Pittsburgh all the way OR a O's vs. Nats WS.

That said, I think odds on it the Angels and somehow the Cards, since they always seem to make a good run in the playoffs.

being in South Jersey, all the locals root for Angel's Millville Native Mike Trout. But I hate Scioscia so much, I can't bring myself to root for them.

Pittsburgh, O's, Gnats, Royals, Angels.. that order

Very glad it worked out weather wise!

Congrats... think you said your son got tickets for ya. That's a TREAT!

Saw jeter earlier this year on a sultry Sunday in the bronx.

Couldn't watch... did they do something "special" for him?

thanks ......special no, On the main viewing screen had special Jeter / Yankee moments along with stats all night . The Big Boss had tears in her eyes & so did a lot of others there.

Our grand parents told use stories of the Yankee greats ...Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio ...we can now pass on our own stories about ...# 2 Derek Jeter

End of an era

NEW YORK -- It was a most improbable ending to Derek Jeter's career at Yankee Stadium and, at the same time, utterly predictable: ninth inning, runner on second, game on the line and the player who has been called "Captain Clutch" at the plate.
As he has done so many times over the past two decades, Jeter jumped on a first-pitch fastball and with that instantly recognizable inside-out swing slapped the ball hard on the ground into right field to score the winning run in a dramatic 6-5 New York Yankees victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

Derek Jeter celebrated after his single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted New York to a 6-5 win.

Please correct me if I am wrong, was it not a second pitch of the AB fast ball?

First pitch was a called strike?

?????
