I'm sure most of you have fished Fisherman's Beach at the hook... It was my first trip there. It is a really nice place. Met a few fishermen and all were very friendly. Also, the owner of the Tackle Box in Hazlet was very accommodating and helpful. I'll be there again...

Hit some jetties last night. Ended up with seven bass, three keepers. Two were in the 28-29" range and one at 36" & 17.5lbs on the boga. The other shorts were in the 26-27" range. Nice to have a productive night.

6 on a midway swimmer and one one a magic swimmer. They would hit or slap at other plugs but couldn't get them to commit.

NOMOCO Out front from 3 to 8 pm--outgoing--light wind, rain for first hour or so, but otherwise very comfortable temperature of about 67. Two dredgers near by in the channel making a hell of a racket (I thought the dredging was supposedly finished over the fall and winter of 2015).

No stripes. One gator on the SP that damn near pulled my arms out of their sockets. Lots of small birds dive bombing tiny baitfish (tiny spearing?) in the rip. Nothing on the bait fish except the birds.

Only one notable event of the trip--angler nearby caught a fluke (about 20") on a darter. Never saw that before. Hopefully a harbinger of good things to come during fluke season.

D, from past experience, when theirs small bait around try and match the hatch. Sometimes the fish won't take a larger plug because there keyed in on a small profile. Been out there fishing with plugs without a tap when a fly fisherman standing next to me was banging the bass on a tiny fly. I switched to just a teaser and 1/2 weight dragged on the bottom with instant results.

Same spot, same method, same lure, same results....kayak...6am - 10am Saturday....beautiful morning, no wind....almost too hot...bottom of the tide...not ideal but bad weather is coming in afternoon so did not have too much of a choice...caught 5 bass, lost 2..one must have been in 30lbs class....it would have been released away...met Mat, Lee...very nice outing
