Exclamation Fishing Reports Winter 2019

For those of you who still fish over the winter remember the back side is closed for Bass.
Also renew your NJ Saltwater Recreational Registration

As always don't be to specific of an area your fishing.

We enjoy reading your reports. Surf, boats, fresh water are all good.. Pictures are even better.
Good luck, have fun and be safe.

Striped Bass or Hybrid Striped Bass
1 fish at 28 inches to less than 43 inches
1 fish at 43 inches or greater

We fished IBSP 7AM - 10AM. One short striper on a teaser/AVA metal rig for my brother-in-law, and the skunk for me.

Long Branch area (please don't worry about spot burn). late afternoon. 2 lil' ones and dropped 2 others. Caught a skate as my bonus fish. Incoming tide, light NW breeze, no gloves needed. 1 on olive/ white surf candy teaser, the other on wine/yellow 3" grub.

I went for a walk out to the point at the Hook last Friday. The tide was way out, but the surf and wind were manageable and the air mildish. I didn't actually expect to catch anything, but I was open to the possibility. It was more of a pilgrimage, I guess.

What do you think early season triggers should be for starting to fish the RB will be? I recall that folks were doing very well with the striper in the bay last spring - better than anything else I saw the rest of the year, in fact. I look forward to learning more about this cool body of water.
