Took my first fluke trip today on the beach, three short ones on gulp. I think I?ll stick with the blues for now.

A few large blues after dark last night. Really had hopes of some stripes with the breeze out of the NE. It may have been my rhythm though, about 20 minutes into the session my left wader boot was filled with water. New ones arrive Monday

Launched a kayak in Raritan bay on Sunday morning and went after fluke until 25mph wind chased me away around noon...caught 9 shorts with 2 fish being very close to 18" and one short bass all on gulp...fluke fishing has started kind of slow for me this season but tougher it gets more of a challenge it is

I don't think you're the only one starting slow. We have an area that historically has been off-the-charts great, in the past, at this time of year, that is literally the dead-sea at the moment.

I took a shot at Seaside Park yesterday to see if the rising / high tide had any fish in it. The water looked beautiful and very fishy, if on the rough side. I had a fish hit and take drag for a moment on my first cast with a large SP Minnow, and that was it. A guy next to me was chunking and landed a nice blue while I was watching him. He was throwing 8 oz and said it was still rolling north.

I suspect that somebody who knew what they were doing better than I was catching.

Took the yak out in a river Saturday night from 3am to half an hour after sunrise using eels on a 3 way rig and did very well with stripes with only two blues destroying the eels. Most hits came in the same area so it was just drift to a point catch or not and paddle back for another short drift through the shadow lines

Navesink river on kayak ...yesterday...6am to 2pm...in pursuit of the fluke...24 shorts and only one keeper at 19.5"...terrible ratio...otherwise beautiful conditions with a light breeze , no humidity with air in mid 70ies...pure joy to be on the water

Kinda. Shower then mass then work.
Out the last two nights for dusk into night in a river. Last night lost a sp and a beauty of a teaser on an errant really just stupid cast with no fish to make up for it. Tonight after a couple of bucktails with gulp changes I switched over to what the guy who was catching was using and landed 3 short fluke on a tipped leadhead.

What!?
Weather reports showed near gale force winds all morning, and only slow improvement later in the day. Just shows that they're not to be trusted and that I should do my decision making from the beach.

Joe, I was out that afternoon and it was cranking 15-20 out of the se, he must have been behind a very large destroyer
