I have seen guys use it frozen while otheres used frozen bunker. I don't think the bass knew the difference hope that may help you but, to answer your question I never used it fresh or frozen.

The macs are running like crazy in MA right now. Lots of guys catch and freeze them for next season's early bass fishing.

I thought that the macs didn't run in the spring... but you can still toss mac chunks out there in the spring and catch bass.

Very productive in the early spring in NJ. Less at other times. Seems to be a favorite of bluefish.

I caught the majority of my keepers this year on mackerel chunks. Hang them on 5/0-7/0 circle hooks, peel back a flap of the skin so it'll wave enticingly in the current, and toss them out on a slider rig. Stripers go for that.

"Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll piss away the kids' tuition fund on fancy equipment he doesn't need, stay out late at night, come home smelling like a dead mackerel, and start hanging around with some really questionable characters."
