The old owner was reportedly playing around with designs before they had their money problems in the aerospace end of things. Instead, they decided to come out with a $2,000 130# class spinning reel

Go figure

I'm pretty sure that the "VS400" was conceived during the last owners run. The Van Staal web site had a mention that there was no current production of that reel.

Slayer, the Van Staal 250 is the way to go. I too spend most of my time fishing off the rocks. While you can buy other reels at a cheaper price, their customer service is superior. I had bought a VS250 on 10/00. I sent it back for the yearly maintenance. In June 2002 after many fishing outings and rough use, the reel body feel off the main mounting bracket. I sent it back to Van Staal and they sent me a brand new reel. Few companies stand behind the products they sell like the Van Staal company. It's an excellent reel and a terrific company.

do the 150. I have the 200 and the 250 and love them, but they are too big for your 7' rod. 200 is ideal for 9-10' and 250 for 10-11'.
