Finally! After almost 6 weeks (minus 2 wks vacation out west) I caught a striper. I'd almost forgotten what they looked like. This guy was 27" lurking near a SoMoCo jetty just after sundown took a yellow Stillwater popper in the suds about 15" deep. Fished that spot hard, but finished a 4 hour trip empty handed.

Thumbs up Re: Fishing Reports July 1st - 15th 09

Good fishing between Shark & Squan Inlets. I hit my first fish within 20 mins of casting clams on the north side of a jetty and just outside the breakers. It was a fatty just under 30 inches. It hit so hard that even with the drag working the spike pulled out of the sand and I had to jump on the rod that was part way in the surf. The second fish came in a few minutes later on light tackle and measured 28" so we threw it back.

This was loads of fun after just getting back from fishing the Outer Banks for a week and catching little more than croakers the size of small bunker. Even before I left for OBX I counldn't hook up to save my life......Game on....Good Luck.....

IBSP Thursday.
Morinig outgoing on jetty one small striper on pearl storm shad.
Afternoon incomming lost one kingfish, caught 3 fluke 1 19" keeper on bucktiail tippped w/ gulp.
Nothing on bunker or clam rods.
Great day of fishing. Beautiful weather, very light crowd on beach enough catching to ward off the skunk.

Only thing I've seen harassing bunker are the dolphins!

Might be time to switch to light tackle and hope for flatties.

Yes I forgot to mention that.
There were large schools of bunker right off the beach w/ apparently nothing on them. They were just drifting around w/ no birds or large splashes. Just a few subtle flips every now and again.
I'd like to say time to switch to flatties but did you see that weigh in at grumpys from yesterday?

Saturday night in NoMoCo. One resident striper on a chartreuse teaser in front of a Blurple Bomber. Was hoping to pick up a few more, but the lightning and the rain came.

Beautiful pic!!! Fantastic fish too

I ain't gettin' out anytime soon (on a boat that is... might pound the sand one of these mornings down at the worst ocean front for fishing in NJ) so I live vicariously through *all* of these reports... pics most welcome!

Just for kicks what size spro and what type gulp (you might have mentioned it somewhere... just curious)
