Does anyone have any experience with the St. Augustine area: species, gear needed, etc.?? I'm visiting friends in april and I'll be able to get out one night...or is night fishing not indicated?
thanks...

Hugh, I used to go down to Boca quite a bit. A spinning rod and some bucktails will put you into all kinds of stuff from little mackeral to 20# plus jacks. I was catching fish on every cast. The lifeguards used to give me a little bit of a hassle and you will have to go fish the rocky outcroppings to the north end of the beach, but that's where all the fish are anyway. Don't forget your license, they don't forget to check you!

few if any snook north of palm until april, water too cold. Fishing piers along coast, but if youre in the south go west to everglades city/10,000 islands, the best fishing in florida. Anywhere from naples south to flamingo. Seriously.

Hey JPL, I will be there for a couple of days on my way down to Key Largo later this month. I will be in Anastasia Park and may also try to fish from the North shore beaches too. Seems it will be mostly whiting, blues, and pompano from the surf. Will post once I am in Key Largo.
