ISIS Uses Churches as Torture Chambers for Forced Conversions

The first stories about ISIS desecrating churches and turning them into torture chambers, where Christians were slaughtered or forced to convert to Islam, began surfacing at the end of 2014. A new report from Christian Freedom International found the persecution of Christians was even more brutal and widespread than believed, with centuries-old Christian communities across the Islamic State war zone completely wiped out.

?Islamic State Militants in Iraq are using Christian churches as torture chambers where they force Christians to either convert to Islam or die,? said CFI president Jim Jacobson, as quoted by the UK Express. ?Islamic State militants are also stripping the former places of Christian worship of ancient relics which in turn are smuggled to Western collectors to help fund their terrorist activities.?

Among the incidents referenced in the report was the videotaped destruction of a 1,600-year-old monastery in Syria by ISIS thugs, who also abducted 230 Christians in the area and made a point of desecrating the bones of Saint Elian, to whom the monastery was dedicate.

As the UK Express observes, there have been several other stories about hundreds of Assyrian Christians being kidnapped by ISIS over the past year, but only a handful of the captives have ever been released. The fate of the rest remains unknown.

Another atrocity described by International Business Times was the abduction for ransom of a Christian priest in Syria. His family was able to raise the $120,000 demanded by ISIS, but they slaughtered the priest anyway, cut him into pieces, and sent the pieces to his family in a box.

Several other Christian priests kidnapped by ISIS and other Islamist groups have been released after being tortured. Others were murdered, or never seen again. ?We are Christian, so we are used to having our luggage always prepared. We always have to run away, escape from place to place,? Catholic Father Douglas Bazi, himself the survivor of a brutal abduction in 2006, told a BBC documentary crew.

Wiping Christianity out of the Middle East is a declared goal of ISIS, and they have made impressive progress toward their goal. It is said that at least 40 percent of the Christian population of Syria has been killed or driven out. The Christian populations of captive cities like Mosul have been effectively wiped out. Other ancient Christian peoples would be dead or enslaved, if not for the intervention of the Kurds.

The magnitude of this crisis is staggering, which makes it very strange to hear Pope Francis spend his time talking about global warming. The Christians of the Middle East are facing an existential crisis. Some of the communities wiped out by Islamists are unlikely to return, ever. Why aren?t the voices of ?tolerance? around the world raised in thunderous denunciation of this savage persecution?

Muslim Countries Surrounding Syria Will Not Take Any Refugees For Fear Of ISIS Terrorists: While In the West Conservatives Are Called Islamaphobic for Not Taking in Refugees

The five richest Arab nations are refusing to accept any refugees from the recent civil war that rages in nearby Syria. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait have permanently closed their doors to the fleeing Syrians. Officials for the wealthy Arab nations say that they do not want to run the risk of bringing in ISIS terrorists along with the hoards of impoverished immigrants

Meanwhile, in the West, nations who either refuse to accept refugees from the Syrian conflict or who warn of the possibility of terrorists lurking in the refugee population are referred to as intolerant Islamophobes by mainstream media outlets and liberal politicians.

Nearly 12 million Syrians have seen their lives uprooted by the fighting in their nation. About half of those have yet to escape the deadly situation, with many applying to enter Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Britain, and nearby Arab nations. So far, the non-Arab states have done the heavy lifting. Syria?s Arab neighbors want to play it safe, they say, because the risk of terrorism is too high.

Germany?s new official policy is to accept up to a half-million refugees per year. Officials in that country who have issued warnings about terrorism or culture clashes have been silenced by the Merkel government, which supports the immigration wave with open arms. In spite of a spike in crime statistics and other severe assimilation problems in Germany and Sweden in particular, both those nations continue to donate more money and take in more refugees than practically all Arab countries combined.

Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey have opened their doors to about four million Syrian citizens on the run from the civil war. As for Europe; Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Serbia, Austria, and the U.K. are currently processing nearly a half-million applications for asylum. The chief concern, especially among Western countries, is that terrorist cells can easily hide among the truly distressed population of refugees.

Saudi Arabia, one of the wealthiest and most technologically advanced of all Arab countries, intends to accept no Syrian refugees. The Kingdom has always been exceedingly picky about refugees and travelers, with strict limits, rules and supervision requirements even for casual tourists. While in Saudi Arabia, vacationing tourists are watched closely to make sure they obey local laws. At the first sign visitors are being non-compliant with Saudi regulations, out they go. When it comes to monetary assistance, the wealthiest Arab countries have not donated as much to the Syrian refugee cause as have the British.

Muslim truckers who refused to deliver alcohol awarded $240,000

A jury has awarded $240,000 to two Muslim men who say they were fired from an Illinois trucking company after refusing to deliver alcohol.

A judge found Morton-based Star Transport Inc. violated the religious beliefs of Mahad Abass Mohamed and Abdikarim Hassan Bulshale. A trial to determine whether they were entitled to damages ended Oct. 20 with the jury's judgment.

2013 lawsuit filed by U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said the men wouldn't deliver alcohol because it was against their religious values as practicing Muslims. The lawsuit claimed the company didn't provide them "with a reasonable accommodation and by terminating them because of their religion."

The Peoria Journal Star reports it's not clear whether the men will get the money because Star Transport has gone out of business

On the brink: Christianity facing Middle East purge within decade, says group

The dwindling Christian population of the Middle East could vanish completely within a decade unless the global community intervenes, say alarmed aid groups who say followers of the Bible are being killed, driven from their land or forced to renounce their faith at an unprecedented pace.

The world has largely stood by as a dangerous tide of intolerance has washed over the region, according to a new study by the international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need. The study includes disturbing data about the plunging numbers of Christians in the part of the world that gave birth to the faith, and makes a dire prediction of what could happen.

?It?s an answer that depends on the response of the world,? Edward Clancy, director of outreach for the United Kingdom-based Aid to the Church in Need, told FoxNews.com. ?What response is there going to be toward us if we act??

Last Christmas was the first time that bells did not ring out in the city of Mosul in 2000 years. I think that speaks to the reality that hundreds of thousands of Christian families are living on the edge of extinction.?

While Christians are under siege from Islamic State radicals in war-torn Syria and Iraq, the report notes that the religion is being targeted throughout the region. Christians who have managed to escape ISIS have fled to places like Europe and Lebanon, while members of the faith also are under increasing pressure in Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

The Christian population in Iraq has plummeted from 1.5 million in 2003 to current estimates of 275,000 and could be gone for good within five years, according to the report. The dwindling numbers are due to genocide, refugees fleeing to other countries, those who are internally displaced, and others hiding in plain sight and not allowing their faith to be publicly known. A dozen Christian families flee Iraq each day, according to 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, a Falls Church, Va., nonprofit dedicated to promoting religious freedom worldwide.

?Unless the global community gets involved, we will witness the loss of Christian witnesses in a land that is biblically significant,? Elijah Brown, executive vice president for 21st Century Wilberforce, told FoxNews.com.

He noted that Iraq's second-largest city, once home to a thriving Christian community as old as the faith itself, has now been overrun by ISIS and purged of Christians.

?Last Christmas was the first time that bells did not ring out in the city of Mosul in 2,000 years," Brown said. ?I think that speaks to the reality that hundreds of thousands of Christian families are living on the edge of extinction.?

In Syria, where Aid to the Church in Need has sent $9 million in aid to help Christians driven from small villages north of Damascus, an estimated 15,000 Christians have left their villages to seek refuge in Homs, Zaidal and Fairouzeh in recent days, according to Syrian Orthodox Archbishop Selwanos Boutros Alnemeh. He told the charity Christians are terrified that ISIS, in a constant see-saw battle for territory with government forces, will capture their villages and kill all non-Muslims. They are particularly fearful for the key city of Sadad, where Christians lived peacefully with Muslims for centuries.

?We are afraid that ISIS -- which God will hopefully prevent -- will conquer the town. We would lose the center of Christianity in our diocese,? Archbishop Selwanos said, adding that two years ago, jihadists held the town briefly and killed at least 45 Christians, and destroyed churches and homes.

The report names Egypt as the one nation in the Middle East that has reversed the trend under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, following the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood and its Islamist agenda. El-Sisi, himself a Muslim, has vowed to protect Egypt's Coptic Christians, and last Christmas attended church services with them in an unprecedented show of tolerance and solidarity.

"Such a development holds out a potential beacon of hope for Christians and others in the Middle East against a backdrop of growing Islamism," the report stated.

While the situation is most dire in the Middle East, Christianity is under assault in Africa and Asia, too, according to the Aid to the Church in Need study. It cited persecution at the hands of Islamist terror groups such as Boko Haram in Nigeria and other extremists in Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and other parts of the continent. Asia's Christians have been targeted by nationalist religious movements -- Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist -- in such countries as Pakistan, Hindu and Myanmar. Many of these groups increasingly view Christianity as a foreign, "colonial" import, and believe its practitioners are doing the bidding of the West, said Clancy.

Persecution has been allowed to spread in many of these countries because of the complacency of its citizens and inaction of the international community, said Brown.

Christians facing 'Indonesian jihad' as churches burned on imams? orders: report

A 153-foot statue of an open-armed Jesus famously towers high above the Indonesian city of Manado, but Christians are under siege in the world's fourth-most populous country, according to a disturbing new report.

The Southeast Asian nation, where about 90 percent of its 250 million people are Muslim, has long been seen as seen as an example that a large Muslim majority can live in relative peace alongside minority religions, like Christianity and Hinduism. But in October, there was a troubling outburst in violence in the Sharia-law governed region of Aceh. At the urging from Islamic leaders, hundreds of Muslims took to the streets with machetes and torched area churches.

We will not stop hunting Christians and burning churches."

- Threat from imam

"We will not stop hunting Christians and burning churches. Christians are Allah's enemies," one Islamic leader said, according to a report by the Gatestone Institute titled, "The Indonesian Jihad on Christian Churches."

Foreign Policy magazine described the Oct. 13 attacks in the Aceh region of the country that sits on the northern end of Sumatra. Mobs carried axes and machetes rode on motorcycles, in pickups and in cars and attacked a church in Suka Makmur. "The group of Muslim hard-liners had apparently had enough of their Christian neighbor's open display of faith," the report said.

The report said that a total of 8,000 Christians in Aceh were displaced in violent clashes and one person, believed to be a Muslim attacker, died after being shot in the head.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo tried to ease tensions at the time and tweeted, "Stop violence in Aceh Singkil. Any act of violence, whatever the reasons behind it, not to mention if it is related to religion and faith, will kill diversity ?Jkw."

Religious groups push U.S. to take in 100,000 Syrian refugees

(Reuters) ? Religious groups in the United States have urged the White House to step up its response to the Syrian refugee crisis, with one on Tuesday calling Washington?s efforts so far ?disappointing.?

Church World Service, a global humanitarian organization that represents 37 Christian denominations, has called on the government to take in 100,000 Syrians over the next year, said Jen Smyers, who works on the group?s immigration and refugee program.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, and the Jewish refugee assistance agency HIAS along with secular groups have also backed that figure.

Since Syria?s war broke out in 2011, Washington has accepted 1,500 refugees, most of them this year, and the State Department expects 300 more by October. Four million people have fled the country since the fighting began, according to U.N. estimates.

?We?ve been disappointed at the current status of U.S. leadership,? Smyers said. ?I think we have seen some nodding of heads and people recognizing that something needs to be done, but we?re still waiting to see what that is.?

The Obama administration is taking into account the urgency of the migrant crisis in Europe as it considers further steps the United States can take to alleviate the situation, the White House said on Tuesday.

The United States had provided more than $4 billion in humanitarian aid since the crisis began.

Smyers said Church World Service, one of nine domestic groups that partner with the federal government on resettlements, also supports the Protecting Religious Minorities Persecuted by ISIS Act, introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in March.

The bill would streamline how Iraqis and Syrians targeted for their religion, gender or ethnicity apply as refugees.

Some congressional Republicans, including Representative Michael McCaul who chairs the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee, have said allowing in Syrian refugees could serve as a pipeline for terrorists and have objected to plans to increase numbers.

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service told Congress that month, however, that the government?s definition of terrorism is overly broad and prevents the innocent and vulnerable from relocating.

Europe has taken in waves of migrants fleeing the violence, including Germany which took in some 20,000 people over the weekend and is preparing for 800,000 this year.

About 1,800 Americans have offered to take refugees into their homes, saying in an online petition that the United States needed to let in more of the displaced.

Fact check: Claims 'no refugees' since 9/11 took part in terror plots ring false
After the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris last week, many news sources claimed that not a single refugee had been charged with terrorism in the U.S. since the attacks on 9/11, but the assertion does not stand up to scrutiny.

The noted publication The Economist proclaimed: ?750,000 refugees have been resettled in America since 9/11; Not one has been arrested on domestic terrorism charges.?

In fact, several refugees have been convicted in high-profile terrorism plots, and several more were ?asylees? -- people allowed to stay in the U.S. for the same reasons as refugees, but who do not go through the same screening process. In one case, two Iraqi refugees in Kentucky were convicted after it turned out they had used IEDs to attack U.S. soldiers in Iraq and were plotting other attacks. An FBI agent recalled that they bragged about that and said they had soldiers ?for lunch and dinner? meaning that he had killed them,? ABC News reported an FBI official as saying in 2013.

" ... it only takes a handful of ISIS infiltrators hiding among them to bring the carnage we saw in Paris to our streets.?

- Marc Thiessen, American Enterprise Institue

A Department of Justice report noted that one of those refugees, Waad Ramadan Alwan, left fingerprints on unexploded IEDs in Iraq and that he was sentenced to 40 years in prison after he ?pleaded guilty to conspiring to kill U.S. nationals abroad; conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction (explosives) against U.S. nationals abroad; distributing information on the manufacture and use of IEDs; attempting to provide material support to terrorists and to [Al Qaeda in Iraq] and conspiring to transfer, possess and export Stinger missiles.?

His conspirator, Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, was also let in through the refugee program and is now serving a life sentence.

Report: Muslim Immigrants Outnumbering Washington DC Population

According to figures from the Department of Homeland Security, President Barack Obama's immigration policy has allowed 680,000 green cards to be issued to immigrants from Muslim countries over the past five years, and that number could repeat in the next five years.

That means the number of immigrants from Muslim nations who have already come in is higher than the population of Washington D.C., at 658,893, writes The Washington Examiner, and will not slow down unless Congress changes the president's open-door policy. The numbers could increase even more, with Obama planning to add 100,000 refugees, most coming from war-torn Syria.

According to Department of Department of Homeland Security Data released by GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions' Judiciary subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest on Wednesday, refugees must apply for a green card within one year after arriving.

Immigrants with green cards have access to federal benefits, lifetime residency, work authorization, and a direct route to becoming a U.S. citizen, the release said.

"Without such changes, the Census Bureau projects that, for each coming year the total number of immigrants in the United States will increase, the annual rate of immigrant admissions will increase, and the foreign-born share of the population will increase," said Sessions' subcommittee release.

The foreign-born population in the United States is already at a record 41.3 million, the report said, and according to Pew polling, 83 percent of Americans believe immigration should either be frozen or reduced.

"By a nearly 10-1 margin, Americans of all backgrounds are united in their shared belief that companies with positions to fill should raise wages instead of bringing in new lower-wage labor from abroad," said Sessions' release. "And yet, despite this, the Senate's Gang of Eight bill would have tripled the issuance of green cards over the next decade, and this year's I-Squared bill would substantially increase both low-wage guest worker admissions and green card allotments ? all on top of the existing record-breaking and unprecedented growth in future immigration."

The majority of people who have come with green cards were from Pakistan and Iran, at 83,000 each, followed by: Bangladesh: 75,000
Iran: 73,000
Egypt: 45,000
