Default Harbor Tackle August Report

Harbor Tackle, West Ocean City, Md. Fishing Report for August 9, 2010

Plenty of flounder are being taken just not many keepers. More keepers have been caught around the Rt. 50 Bridge, the East Channel, and Stinky Beach. Croakers are showing in the Bay. Triggerfish and tog are at the Inlet and around the pillars of the Rt. 50 Bridge. Some nice blues and mostly small stripers at the Rt. 50 Bridge and in the Inlet. At the beach are sharks, rays, skates, kingfish, spot, croakers, flounder and blues. A local crabber said he saw Monarch butterflies last week. Are the reds going to show early?

Congratulations to: Paul Lambert of Queen Anne, Md. With his 31 ? inch 9 pound 6 ounce bluefish from the Rt. 50 Bridge using a Gotcha Plug.

Please help our local Assateague National Park win $100,000 grant from Coca-Cola through the National Park Foundation. According to Trish Kicklightner, Superintendent of Assateague Island National Seashore, The National Park Foundation and Coca-Cola are encouraging Americans to be active outdoors in their national and state parks with the launch of the ?America Is Your Park? campaign. Through this campaign, an online voting center has been created to let individuals cast a vote for their favorite park. The national or state park that receives the most votes by August 31st wins a $100,000 grant made possible by Coca-Cola?s Live Positively initiative. No sign-up or registration is necessary to participate and individuals can vote as many times as they want until the voting closes on August 31st. To vote, go to http://ww.livepositively.com/#/americasparks. Then simply:
1. Click the ?Vote for your park!? Button.
2. Type the name of the park you?d like to vote for in the ?Search? box in the upper left corner, and hit the Enter key. (You may also search for parks by state or zip code.)
3. Click on the red ?Vote? button next to the name of the park your support.
In addition, for every vote cast, Coca-Cola will also donate $1 to the National Park Foundation up to a total donation of $200.000.

Thanks for the heads up HT. Unfortunately, Assateague is not "my favorite" NP any more so it wouldn't get my vote today. It was for a long time, however, radicals have polluted the atmosphere there. The hypocrisy of what some stand for there in a guise of "keeper of a beach" has sullened that Park to the point that even die hard fishermen there refuse to join?

At one time, Assateague represented the last line of defense against a liberal thinking that we no longer had the right to use the Park but now we only have the opponents owned land (Nature Conservancy) as the Line in the Sand.

Nothing against the NC, they do have a solid line that has been established for a long time that is basically non-negotiable. More power to them as they have single handedly stopped the destruction of the Coast in the name of development by ownership.

That stretch of land between Chincoteague and the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay will remain as the "Last Stand" for decades to come.

My favorite NP vote would go to the Island of Maui's great North Eastern park of the Crater of Haleakala. Wow, a place that makes most NP's seem small.
