Ted Cruz Slams Reid for Exempting Staff from Obamacare

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a staunch supporter of the president's signature healthcare law, has chosen to allow some of his staff to opt out of buying insurance on the new health exchanges. Instead, he's letting them keep their existing federal employee insurance plans

ObamaCare exchange errors, 'scam' frustrate congressional staffers

Congressional lawmakers and staff are getting a hard lesson in the problems with the ObamaCare websites, as they run up against long wait times, technical failures and security issues with the D.C. exchange.

The problems prompted the House chief administrative officer on Thursday to write the Office of Personnel Management urging them to take "immediate steps" to make sure lawmakers and staff can enroll.

New problems emerged on Friday, with a Capitol Hill source drawing attention to an apparent scam in the system. The source detailed how, after telling the user the password was incorrect, the site directed the individual to a "forgot password" page -- which then asked for highly personal information.

"On that page I was asked for my check card number and my ATM pin," the source said. "I was fairly confident this was a scam so I called customer service. After a 103 minute hold time, I was told that this was indeed a scam."

Top Tier Hospitals Excluded from Obamacare

With the Dec. 23 deadline looming for signing up for health insurance under Obamacare, consumers rushing to purchase new coverage may be in for a rude shock if they focus principally on finding the least expensive premiums, according to experts.

That?s because many people buying coverage on the federal exchanges either to replace old policies or to obtain coverage for the first time could get hit with deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs much higher than is typical in employer-sponsored health plans.

Government Takeover: White House Forces Obamacare Insurers To Cover Unpaid Patients At A Loss

Of all of the last-minute delays, website bungles, and Presidential whims that have marred the roll-out of Obamacare?s subsidized insurance exchanges, what happened on Thursday, December 12 will stand as one of the most lawless acts yet committed by this administration. The White House?having canceled Americans? old health plans, and having botched the system for enrolling people in new ones?knows that millions of Americans will enter the new year without health coverage. So instead of actually fixing the problem, the administration is retroactively attempting to force insurers to hand out free health care?at a loss?to those whom the White House has rendered uninsured. If Obamacare wasn?t a government takeover of the health insurance industry, then what is it now?

Obama Repeals ObamaCare

Under pressure from Senate Democrats, the President partly suspends the individual mandate.

It seems Nancy Pelosi was wrong when she said "we have to pass" ObamaCare to "find out what's in it." No one may ever know because the White House keeps treating the Affordable Care Act's text as a mere suggestion subject to day-to-day revision. Its latest political retrofit is the most brazen: President Obama is partly suspending the individual mandate.

The White House argued at the Supreme Court that the insurance-purchase mandate was not only constitutional but essential to the law's success, while refusing Republican demands to delay or repeal it. But late on Thursday, with only four days to go before the December enrollment deadline, the Health and Human Services Department decreed that millions of Americans are suddenly exempt.

Individuals whose health plans were canceled will now automatically qualify for a "hardship exemption" from the mandate. If they can't or don't sign up for a new plan, they don't have to pay the tax. They can also get a special category of ObamaCare insurance designed for people under age 30.

The Hidden Impact of Obamacare and the Economy

Obamacare has delivered another sucker punch to the middle class. This time it?s sticker shock.

Now that a few people can get past the tech problems of HealthCare.gov and actually see the real cost of insurance plans available, they are finding that Affordable Care is big hit to the family budget. And when the family budget gets hit in the solar plexus, guess what happens to consumer spending and the economy.
In California, policies for about 900,000 Californians are being canceled because of Obamacare?s mandates and about 2/3rd of these do not qualify for subsidies, according to The Chicago Tribune. The result?these folks will be paying higher premiums.

In Alabama, premiums have doubled for some middle class families like Courtney Long, a stay-at-home mother of four. She told WHNT News. ?It?s devastating. I started crying,? said Long. ?I mean, we have worked so hard to get out of credit card debt, get ahead on the car loan, transfer our mortgage to a 15 from a 30 year mortgage? and for what??

Forget 'Keep Your Plan' & Website, Obamacare Taxes Are Worse

There is no shortage of complaints about the Affordable Care Act, the unfortunately named massive health-care law still roiling the nation. Embarrassing website issues and keep-your-doctor-keep-your-plan backtracking have occupied center stage. Add to that a kind of Hunger Games, the system?s voracious need to sign up young people to offset the cost for others. Come on down, say the advertisements.

It must be underscored that this isn?t only the President?s law. Congress passed it, and it is hard to get past the naming ironies so prevalent in Washington. Taxes and fees abound, and when it comes out of your pocket, it matters little whether a tax or fee label is applied. In 2014, Americans must dig deeper for the health care they need in ways that don?t meet the eye.

As with many tax laws?and on many fundamental levels, the Affordable Care Act is a tax law?determining exactly where the tax burden falls isn?t always clear. One of the new taxes funds the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). (I wish this institute included ?affordable? for it makes a better acronym.) This 2% levy on health plans is expected to collect a cool $8 billion this year alone.

By 2018, annual receipts from the little 2% climb to $14.3 billion. Over a decade, it reaps over $100 billion. Here comes the zinger. Self-insured employers (public companies and 4 of every 5 employers with over 500 employees) don?t have to pay it, according to IRS rules. Oh, but the health plans pay it, right

Surprise! Walmart health plan is cheaper, offers more coverage than Obamacare

.
.

New Obamacare health insurance enrollees may feel a pang of envy when they eye the coverage plans offered by Walmart to its employees.

For many years, the giant discount retailer has been the target of unions and liberal activists who have harshly criticized the company's health care plans, calling them ?notorious for failing to provide health benefits? and "substandard.?

But a Washington Examiner comparison of the two health insurance programs found that Walmart's plan is more affordable and provides significantly better access to high-quality medical care than Obamacare
