Small 4WD on the Beach
Are there any small 4WD suv type vehicles suitable for use as a buggy? I want to buy a used 4wd for work and the beach.

Re: Small 4WD on the Beach
I have experience with one Forester. They are nice but more ground clearance might be a factor. I got mine hung up far more often than any SUV. I know the Forester is considered by some to be an SUV but I look at it as more of a crossover.

Re: Small 4WD on the Beach
When this came up before the consensus was the best used 4WD SUV to get for the beach was the Jeep Cherokee.

YES! The plain Cherokee not the "Grand" one.

Re: Small 4WD on the Beach
Take a look at the Nissan Exterra. Smaller than the Pathfider and made for off road. I had one a few years ago as a company car ( weird eh ?) and it ate the sand up.

Re: Small 4WD on the Beach
I am seriously looking at the 2014 Cherokee, but know it is nothing like my '96 or '00 Cherokee. I would stay away from smaller SUV, and especially ones that are AWD and not 4WD. And for the record, if I do go for the new Cherokee, it wont be going on the beach. I will keep the '00 for the rare occasions I might make it to NJ or the Outer Banks...
