The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Yankee pitchers and catchers report tomorrow.
Not that it matters between the aging players who will break down and the return of the aroid circus returns.
Can you tell I'm excited about this season?
Actually, I'm excited about the prospect of warmer weather

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Reason I said that about roid was that the local fans don't like him. In SF they still like Bonds. In StL McGuire is still connected with the team and the fans like him. In NY not so with roid.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Problem is that there are (I believe) 61 million reasons the Yankees are going to make him play this season, fans like or dislike aside
What a bonehead contract. I hated the guy from before day 1 as a Yankee, just his attitude seemed off, and NEVER wanted him here.
Oh he'll probably break some HR record (can't recall exactly whose, but he is behind by 6 HRs for ...Mays or ?? someone, not the overall HR record that Bonds holds if you can call that a record), they will try to make him pay, er, play as much as possible.
And if he hits at all over .250, after the early season boos, stupid NYY fans will actually cheer.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
Bart Giamatti / Bud Selig , MLB Players Association new all new about what was going on in Our sport for decades . If they wanted to stop it the could have but for the good of revenue for the teams it was not. It is an entertainment & business. Why some were tested & some were not ? ...the rules were there were no rules.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
True... Aroid was made a scapegoat and others, like that Bosox slugger, get away with it still.
But really that has nothing to do with why I hated Aroid on the Yankees. I didn't like his attitude ever.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
If he maned up in the beginning the story would have been different , He is what he is got what he deserved ..the fans will tell the story . On that note : my last game was Jeter's last in Yankee Stadium It is going to take a lot for me to go again. What is fun kids I know growing up (NY &NJ ) are now in MLB & in AAA/ AA . I'll follow them.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
if baseball wants to speed up the game ...tell the pitching coaches to stay in the dug-out,unbelievable seems like NY Yankee pitching coach Larry Rothyschild makes a visit every inning ...on relief pitchers : they just warmed up in the pen ...now more pitches on the mound ?
Catch todays ESPN David Ortiz interview on the subject very funny

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
not much Ortiz could say would make me laugh.
he's one of the greatest offenders.
I'm ALL FOR them MAKING the players stay put, and in fact would be in favor of reverting to NEITHER feet out of the box unless time is given, which would be
at the sole discretion of the umpire.
I don't care if pitchers try to quick pitch batters or whatever, it's time to get
these players to play.
The coach visits etc were always part of the game and never bothered me.
Average 18 pitches per inning, batter steps out on every pitch, 10 seconds per step out, up to 2 minutes per half inning, up to 4 minutes per inning * 9 LESS per game.
That CAN'T be a bad thing, especially in a Red Sox/Yankees game where they've been going over 4 HOURS.
I remember being at a Jim Kaat pitched game that lasted approx 1 1/2 hrs! Try that on for size.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
ok on Ortiz
"
Someone told Ortiz the proposed penalty for stepping out of the box was a $500 fine. Would he prefer just to pay the money?
"Well, I might run out of money,'' he said. "I'm serious. I'm not going to change my game. I don't care what they say. My game, it's not like I go around and do all kinds of stupid s---. But I have to take my time and think about what that [pitcher] is going to do next. I'm pretty sure every single hitter at this level is on the same page."
If he keeps up his nonsense then he needs to be tossed out of the game.
Period.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
one thing he said which I AGREE with is:
"
"How about all the pitchers who go around the mound and do all that bulls---,'' Ortiz said. "What about that? Why don't they tell the pitcher, 'Throw the pitch and stay on the mound. Don't move.'
"If they're going to do it on us, they should do it on the pitchers, too. We're not the only ones in the game, you know what I'm saying?"
This all came to a head back in 77 or 78 WS, dodgers/yankees, with a relief pitcher of theirs (can't recall who... had bushy hair... looking at the roster maybe it was Terry Foster?? ) whose claim to fame that year was taking like a minute between each pitch. Really frustrating to watch, and a joke.
Yankees still beat him.

Re: The 2015 New York Baseball Thread
go to any MLB game & see players standing around on the field in between innings games are held up because of commercials & announcements $$$ so it is all BS anyway. Night games on the west coast I'll watch Encore w/ Bob Lorenz to speed things up.
