The Mets said at the beginning of the season that they would contend for a playoff spot.

I just read where Harper said he hopes the Mets win the world series. It didn't say if he was serious though.

Mets now lead Dodgers for home field; makes the last week interesting; and the Papelbon vs Harper dugout fight describes the entire year in Wash; there is no sense of team and no leadership from veterans; they acted likes they were owed the title and now they can go home and mope and whine while they look for a new manager

Congrats to Terry C, Sandy A, and the rest of the Mets on a GREAT season, no matter what happens in the playoffs.

It really has been way beyond my wildest speculation for both teams.

I was hoping for meaningful baseball into August for perhaps one team or the other, and I really couldn't have guessed which one. Clearly the Mets now have the potential for a major run, if things keep breaking for them (imagine if all bats start hitting at once!).

The Yanks are very inconsistent, but again, this is way beyond what I expected for season. First base production, Arod, some young pitchers... they are set up for some rebuilding, though they will continue to have some problems for a few years.

edit: and, by the way, I did not mean to imply that "Arod" was part of the "rebuilding" LOL... just one of the surprises for the season

Bombers don't deserve to be in the playoff race, Toronto was 12 games back on Aug. 28 made some moves & they responded by the org. / team wants to win. The Yanks did nothing shows the team ,the fans they can be like the old Mets give the ticket holders nothing but cheap entertainment .

I agree that as a team, they haven't played well enough to make the playoffs. Big problem are the leftover contracts for the older players.... moves they never should have made. Now it's clear Hank and family won't unlock their checkbooks in an unlimited fashion and Cashman is keeping his younger prospects closer to home, rather than trade.

In the Mets case, let's face it, Sandy pulled a rabbit out of a hat with the moves he made, and everything has fallen in place. No one, including him, could have predicted it would have gone as well as it did, even David W coming back better than anticipated.

There is really no player on both teams I would say or spend $$$ with a desire to make a trip to the stadium or field right now , I could have sold two tks Jeter's last game in the Bx for 3k , it was worth not to . Maybe next year possible ...maybe

well, the Yanks are in, waiting for their dance partner and location. The Mets are in, probably going against Kershaw and Grenke. Fun times
