Belford Co-op.

They are the guys who supply the tackle shops along Rt 35/36 area. It seems like there is a clam shortage (of the skimmer style) locally where the clammers are struggling to find them. Yay for beach replenishment. lol

Beach replenishment + heavy harvest == ocean clam shortage up and down the coast.

The politicians are going to kill fishing one way or another.

Went to the front last evening to see what all the hubbub over birds was about. Came over the dunes and there were thousands of gannets everywhere . None diving, saw no bait. Rumor has it they're on herring

Not a tap for me but it felt good to get the big stick out and throw some real plugs for a change.

Just met my buddy who's never been one for trying the early season action on the Barnegat Bay. We agreed that the improvement in weather scheduled for later this week justifies a trip to the Toms River area. Maybe a couple days of warm sun will encourage the chopper blues to show up. Of course, we will be more than happy just to encounter a few of those spring stripers.

Yea John, I am familiar with the co-op but this was the guy beofe the co-op gets em. I got em right from the clammer himself. There was even an after hours fridge with the honestly policy where you left 5 bucks in a hole in a cash box.
Over 10 years ago so it may be gone

the one I remember was not in keyport, the clam guy I knew was down in Port Monmouth, if I recall. Freezer outside with an "honor system" $5 drop box.

When I used to fish with bait it was the only place I'd get my clams from even though out of my way. A real public service as far as I was concerned, 24 x 7 - 365.

Sounds like the place I went. The make shift road was paved with broken clam shells.

We are talking about the same guy. His name is Ron, he supplies all the bait shops in the area.

The place is in Belford neighboring Port Monmouth.

No commercial clammers out of Keyport.

RB last night from land, 1 @ 32" for me and some smaller fish on RG gliders. Just caught the last 30 minutes of the best bite where I was.
