I don't think our members take into account how much cheating goes on with fish weights.

And in the "things that make you go hmmm," department we have -

Scott Lapsley 53.60lb on #4 White

Same day as the 54 by Walt Dudley. Doesn't LOOK like the same fish, but two fish with the same weight on the same day......

Does make me wonder. I don't have any other info.

Art of Ship Bottom fished the mid-island surf late this afternoon. His first bait got taken by a trophy striped bass.

Art said, ?I hit the surf not far from my house. There was a good section of water with a nice rip. I casted out my first bait and put it right in the zone. Minutes later I was hooked up. After a nice long battle both the fish and I were beat.? Art brought the bass over to the shop and checked it in for a weight. It weighed it in, 57.4 pounds 51.75″ length with a 30″ girth. A fish of a lifetime and one of the largest ever weighed in at the shop.

Don't which ones but it would not surprise me if some of these picutres are photo shopped. There is a lot of that.

I have a couple of candidates. There's no tackle shop info for the weigh-in, so I won't swear to the accuracy of the weights listed - but they are monster fish.

That said, we have:

1- "Chad Oberhauser of Bayville on number 4 green spoon. That makes five fish over 50 lbs. out of Barn. Inlet this week."

2- "Capt rusty his wife Jill and children Emma and Russ jr out celebrating Capt Rusty's bday on there boat snow goose when he got the best gift ever! Landed a 50.4 lb Striper while trolling a spoon on 5/27/17 of seaside."

3- John Guardabasso 5/16/17 "Tad over 50 inches with 31 girth. 52 on hand scale.

----------------------------------------

Of the three, the first two seem legit - but I do have an issue with number 3. While I haven't handled a 50, I have dealt with several mid to upper 40s - you don't hold a fish like that with your arms straight out to the camera.

It's also worth noting that the photo of fish number one that was supposedly caught on a spoon, has a bloody jig on the deck.

Thanks for those. It gets us up to ten. Looks like a good season, especially Jersey.

Congrats to Capt mark Haley for 2nd place in the 2017 LBI cup with a 50.34lb striker caught on a #4 green spoon . The happy angler is Rob Wentz

So if second was 50.34, first place was???

I have to find out.

First place fish for the LBI tournament was 55.5 pounds, but no angler name so.....no good unless we get a name. Instead I got "James Gang," for the angler.

What gives? Has Jersey become the new Block Island? Its awful early for so many large bass.

I was going to post a 60 from yesterday, but it was a boat, non weighed fish, and upon further investigation looked like a 40 at best. Off of seaside, it was a good fish no matter.
