oe Lyons has been a surfcaster for over fifteen years on the rocks and beaches of Rhode Island and Block Island. An accomplished writer he is a regular contributer to several New England and Northeast fishing magazines. In 2002 he put his experience and knowledge to "good use" by becoming a professional surfcasting guide in Rhode Island and Block Island. Among his many clients in 2003 was Peter Kaminsky, the well known writer for the New York Times and author of numerous books on fishing and many other subjects.
Joe's philosophy in his own words:
Because catching a fish from shore is not easy. Having someone show you techniques: like how to fish eels, select lures, or why a certain set of conditions are better than others, can shorten the leaning curve - considerably. Find out why 90% of the fish go to 10% of the fishermen.
Surfcasting is a different game, that requires special skills. It's a quiet, solitary, mystical sport with rewards that transcend catching fish.
While I can't guarantee fish to every client on every trip, I can promise that you will learn techniques that work. I'll guide you to places you can re-visit if you wish. I'll pass on what I know about how and when to best approach surfcasting at the various state and local access areas. Reading the water, fish handling, fishing the wind, fishing the tides - these are just some of things you'll learn. Put those techniques to work and, over time, you will get more fish.
Joe has had to give up professional guiding due to his writing committments and the popularity of his online "Outfitter" business, Surfcasting-RhodeIsland.com. If you are a novice or an old salt Joe has the premier products and tackle needed to be successful. Plus his service is Top Rate!
